Nokna, I think a lot of people forget (not just foreign visitors but also Dutch people) that prostitutes here have a lot of overheads, not just the room, ‘uniform’, ‘tools of the trade’, advertising and other obvious things… but they pay income-tax, national insurance, health insurance in the exact same way people in “regular” lines of work do. They even have their own trade-union… so yep, union fees too. They are licensed as prostitutes and to keep that license, regular health checks are a must, I assume they must be paid for out the girls’ earnings as well. I’m not saying they are poor… just, that for every 100g’s they earn the tax-mans whack and other compulsory costs will leave them I guess with less than half of the original sum. Probably much less than half as income-tax alone is around 30%. And like you say… it’s so difficult to explain to a Thai what the cost of living here is. The A’dam prostitute will more than likely be paying 20,000 baht a month on rent alone for her one-bedroomed apartment.
The 100g’s s&f you mention… I would imagine with the intro of the euro and 2yrs worth of inflation that has now become 50euro, roughly 120g’s. Yeahh lets hear it for the Euro! As for your comment on “in and in 20 minutes”… a few years I was sitting in a pub in the RLD with a group of friends… we had a good view of at least 10 windows from where we were sitting. Business was booming that day so we did a highly unofficial survey of the length of time the punters were in the rooms. From the moment the price was agreed, to the moment the guy was back out on the street… the average… over about 20 odd that we “surveyed” was… 13 minutes.

Chrisboy, the casino is wayyy more expensive than the RLD (well for me at least, lol). I think Amsterdam as a whole is quite Asian friendly... well as "asian friendly" as Europe gets. (pockets of assholes everywhere I suppose).
Dave, it is funny/sad (the conveyor belt angle). I dunno if you've ever heard of the illegal prostitutes here, and how they operate... but that is even more conveyer belt like than the red light district. To get the non-licensed prostitutes out of the city centre they built places on the city outskirts that resemble car-washes... it's all fenced off but very visable from the trains after about 10pm.
I agree... definitely not my idea either of an enjoyable experience.

I had no use for the casino, it didn't seem like a very fun atmosphere and the game selection and decor were pitiful (compared to the casino resorts such as in vegas). Maybe I missed something, but it seemed like you'd have to be truly desperate to want to gamble there. Maybe if you had a bunch of fun friends along you could make your own party.

Certainly the RLD experience is not Thailand or a good substitute for a romp with your GF, but those are not fair comparisons. Why not compare it instead to wacking off while reading Playboy or watching porn? Or compare it to sitting on your couch watching reruns of Seinfeld. Seems to me that having 20 minutes of sex with a beautiful, but mostly disinterested girl is still a better alternative.
I suppose if that is the only sex you've ever had in your life, it might be sad. But I think for the most part, staying at home and whacking off alone is a little sadder.

I never imagined H.C would rate anywhere near a Vegas casino, for decor or game selection. As for 'needing to be desperate to gamble' to go there.... well, there are only about 5 licensed (legal) casinos in the whole of Holland... so I guess beggers can't be chosers.
Obviously your summation of Amsterdam's RLD is shared by thousands of people, from every corner of the globe, every day of the year. I wasn't knocking that.... merely commenting on the difference between here and LOS... SPECIFICALLY the 'pay for sex' angle.
Unfair comparisson? You may well be correct. But what kind of comparisson is comparing a casino in Amsterdam to one in Vegas?
A prostitute in Holland sells sex, so does a BG in Thailand... a casino in Holland is a place to gamble, as it is in Vegas... but there the similarities end.
A S/T with a Thai BG is in no way is comparable to a 20 minute transaction with an Amsterdam prostitute (apart from the obvious similarities).
A night out in a Vegas casino is in no way comparable to a night out in a Dutch casino (apart from the obvious similarities).
