Aloha peoples!! Any info on the Sirocco Restaurant?? http://www.2bangkok.com/2bangkok/buildings/state/state.shtml Am interested to know about the over-all experience. Is this place over-rated and just another high price "cool place to be as of now" type of a place? Or is this a restaurant worht puttin' on the radar screen?? Mahalo.

bkkz: Yeah. That is where I read the original review. Your ex-hosting service does suck. I even did a search just to make sure the thread could've been alive somewhere. *sigh* Did not find it!! I'm hoping that smegma or rtb will repost their thoughts again.

ABC -- The Bangkok Post reviewed Sirrocco in Jan. '04. Their reviews are available on their website; click on restaurant reviews or restaurant search on their home page. I've only been there for drinks, not for food. The bar is definitely worth a visit and a fine place to take out-of-town guests. They were in the process of creating a cigar bar and a bourbon or champaign bar, but I'm not sure if those are up and running.

Yo Pres. Thanks!! Found it. Was not aware it served Mediterranean food. Cooleo!! I think I'm gonna put this place on my "new places to vist" list. Sounds interesting.
Bangkok Post A Guide to Matching Wines with Asian Foods There are many, many types of Asian foods and millions of wines available. How is it possible to find the best wine and food pairings? The correct answer is through your own experience, trial and error, if you will. However, such experimentation can take some time and can become quite costly especially if you're going to that favorite restaurant tonight. So we offer the following wine suggestions culled from our own experience as well as that of others. Sirocco - MEDITERRANEAN Address : State Tower Bangkok, 63rd floor Silom Road Tel. : 02-624-9555 Open : 6pm-1am Price : Spectacular view while dining on Mediterranean cuisine Rare, simple elegance Simplicity and innovation are the key ingredients at Sirocco. I ordered a pan seared foie gras (590 baht), which was served on a slice of toast with a confit of dried fig, and a salad of green apple, Gorgonzola cheese, and nuts. This is adventuresome treatment for foie gras, but it worked extremely well. Interestingly, the liver had been moulded into a patty shape and was criss-crossed with grill lines. Altogether, this was a new take on an old favourite. Next was the roulade of fresh tuna (380 baht) with artichoke and fava beans. I sampled a corner, and enjoyed the pungent citrus flavour of preserved lemon vinaigrette. There was a crispy calamari salad with zucchini (290 baht), the squid rings contrasting with a hit of garlic from the aioli and the tang of salsa. Plus there was a particularly fragrant bouillabaisse soup (240 baht), which, like all the dishes at Sirocco, was served as a large portion. With live fish tanks in the kitchen, fish and shellfish is a speciality. One member of my group ordered a Phuket lobster (2,400 baht), one of the house signature dishes, and it was the biggest Phuket lobster that I have ever seen. It was prepared simply, baked with preserved lemon, garlic and lobster butter, with sautéed new potatoes. Being fresh, the lobster meat was especially tender. Another signature dish is black pepper crab (1,600 baht), made to a Singapore recipe, with the crab again kept live in the tank. The earthy, spicy tang of this dish, the black pepper is not spared, will bring tears to your eyes, and the size of the crab is formidable. Next on the agenda was the Australian lamb (850 baht), pan roasted and served with arugula and sun-dried tomato. I ordered a tenderloin of US Angus beef (1,450 baht), grilled and served with creamed potato and a pepper sauce. The serving, true to form, was huge: but I was hungry. There were the traditional protests about not having room for desserts, but we capitulated in the end. Ricotta cheese cake (250 baht), a selection of home made ice creams (90 baht a scoop), strawberry sorbet (250 baht) and Phuket pineapple roasted in Grand Marnier appeared, and disappeared. abc. the report does only mention the food. I had foie gras and aussie lamb. the food is great, so are the wines. the unique thing thought is it's location. aou are able to see tout bangkok, from the 64th floor of a skyscraper, all open, just 4 feet of glass. the bar is even elevated. when you first come up there you go like "wooohooo hooo". we sat at table 1 and saw a couple of people rolling their eyes. not for the faint hearted. prepare to spend about USD 150.00 for two. as I mentionned earlier, great to impress some people, being it a date, fiance, a friend or a customer. rtb

ringthebells: Thanks for the 411 on the place. $150 for two could be kinda steep considering it's Thailand. Not that Thailand is cheap, but food prices are definitely cheaper then what I pay @home. heck with it though. I'm on vacation!! ha ha ha!! Do I need to make reservations for a group of 6, or is it pretty easy to get a table?? I know. You don't look like the matradee to me!! ha ha ha!! And the food you had sounds "ohno" Will post a report when I go. Lastly, the music is fine. I don't go for fine dining and expect to hear club music!! ha ha ha!! I'll head to CM2 afterwards to work off some calorires from dinner!! Peace.............
