To the techies since I am "way not"...in the words of my daughter.
1. How can one check from where in the world is a particular email messageetc. sent?
2. Is it possible to see/know if an email sent was read?
3. I have asked this before....I want to buy a mobile in BKK and mail to the US for my daughter. And want advice what to buy so she can for certain use in the US with prepaid cards NOT monthly service agreement. I know it is easier to just buy in the US but I need to do it this way.....

1. Normally, yes. You can look at the header info on the mail (Outlook and others have this feature: Show header info... or something). But this header is easilly forged by spammers and such, so there is no guarantee that this info is valid - and you would have to do some detective work to find out who the real sender is.
2. Yes and no. Outlook and others have implemented a "Ask for read confirmence", "Get a reply when this message is deleted" etc (this is a part of the email spec). But to get this thing working you need:
1. The receiver have to have a mail client supporting these features.
2. The receiver have to accept these features.

No it is not.
Whether you send email by using a Web-based interface or using a client, you connect to the email server which sends the email. The email header only contains info about the email server and userid that sent it, but not how or from where a user connected to it (be it via web or email client).

No it is not.
Whether you send email by using a Web-based interface or using a client, you connect to the email server which sends the email. The email header only contains info about the email server and userid that sent it, but not how or from where a user connected to it (be it via web or email client) .
Mmmmm, yes and no. If included in the email, details from the CONTENT-TYPE, CONTENT-TRANSFER-ENCODING, X-ORIGINATING-IP and/or DATE (with timezone) header fields might provide insightful clues. Combining these header fields and using an IP geolocator tool may paint a little better picture of where in the world an email originated.
Big assumption being made that email spoofing, header trickery and proxies not being employed by sender.
