Hi, I have a RETIREMENT VISA.. I have Re-Entry Permit valid through 18 Jan 2006.. I have been out of Thailand for 5 months.. Question: Is my Retirement Visa still good for re-entry into The Kingdom, after my 5 month absence, or will I have to apply for another type "O' Visa???? THANK YOU very much

Pretty sure you will have to start all over beginning with th Non Imm O, then the retirement extension. This involves the bank letter for asset verification (bank book is not sufficient), and medical certificate. You might, depending on the office location get them to bend the rules if you are only one or two days late, but this is a long shot. Can't hurt to try anyway. Also for your visa to become invalid, it would have to be stamped somehow in your passport. So if they do not do this at the airport you are probably home free as they have no way of knowing at the Imm office that you ever left the country. I do not think their computer system is sophisticated enough to track these things. Let us know if you do get away with being late on your re-entry permit.

David: I really don't understand your question. You say your visa is valid through 18 January 2006. When do you plan to return? If your visa is valid until 1/18 you should be able to return up to and including that date. If you arrive after that, they will give you a 30 day tourist visa upon arrival at the airport. Your retirement visa is valid for one year from your arrival date on the Non-Immigrant "O" and may be renewed annually, assuming you are in country to renew it. If you lose the retirement aspect, you will have to go out and obtain another "O" visa in order to re-apply for the retirement benefit. -------------------------------------------------------- bkkfella: As far as knowing if you have left the country...all Immigration has to do is look at the stamps in your passport. Those will indicate the date of departure and any return date. They always look at mine as well as the arrival card that is stapled into your passport. Am I missing something here?

David: You may return up to the date stamped in your passport as the date of return. Your retirement visa will expire on the date stamped in your exit/reentry visa. If you wish to keep you retirement visa, you should try and get back a few (3-4) days earlier so you can renew it rather than getting a new one if it should expire.

Do you have a re entry visa? When you have marriage, retierment, work visa you need a re entry visa before you go out. If you do not apply for one you have to start all over.

Please read the first post of this thread. David clearly states he has an exit/reentry visa.

No, you are right...... my bad. If the Imm officer at the gate on arrival does not see a rentry permit, he will likely void your Non Imm O and issue a 30 day tourist pass. Then you would have to start all over. I wonder if they can be persuaded to overlook it and just let you thorugh with your existing Visa. Moral.... do not forget to get the re-entry pass. I believe they are available at the airport now.
