The Bangkok International DJ Festival - DJ Akbar Sami

The Bangkok International DJ Festival
November 28th – December 4th 2006

Akbar has had a vivid career- three music videos that were sold out and several title tracks for the silver screen. He has spent a number of years globe trotting as a popular DJ, and is often regarded as the man who introduced House music to Indian dance floors. Akbar travels to the UK to pick up new records and finds Disc Jockeying a serious business that needs investment and updating regularly on the music front. He believes that one needs to have a sense of rhythm and to know a little of the basics of instruments. His collection of music is vast to cater to the Indian market, which unlike the West does not have genre-specific DJs and clubs.

His prowess is reflected in his cover versions on the albums Jalwa 1, Jadoo and Jalwa 2. From the much-appreciated Do lafzon ki, Dagha la lagli (the super duper hit in Marathi) to the Raat Baaqi, his tracks have been unique in their appeal. As for his film work, he has done title tracks for the Sohail Khan starrer Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, Awara Pagal Diwana, Jeena Sirf Mere Liye and Aan along with serious studio work at the moment for his new album slated to be released in February-March 2003.
