Hin, I agree with your sentiments 100%. Sadly, I don't think the world gets LOS at all, and the "world" (including Anderson Cooper of CNN) all too easily equates the P4P scene here with that of the streets of tijuana and cleveland. But they don't get it because they don't want to. It is easier to wear blinders than acknowledge that life doesn't always divide neatly along moral puritanical lines. But I could care less what the world thinks.
I forgot to add that I reject the term "sex tourist" for the members here, and most certainly for myself. There are undoubtedly those who come to LOS seeking the cheep thrills they have heard so much about on CNN (just peek inside any bar in Patong), with as little depth of knowledge or appreciation as the tourist who, standing in front of the pyramids of Giza, declares them "awesome" and a "sight to behold". I, for one, am a traveler, not a tourist.
But I am not sure I like "sex traveler" any better, because as much as I enjoy sex, that isn't the only reason I travel, to LOS or anywhere else. In fact, I have avoided traveling some places precisely because of my perception, rightly or wrongly, that there was little of interest there besides sex.
And I think anyone who bothers to read widely on this forum is by that very fact more than a tourist when it comes to LOS.

so from what I read, this isn't a forum for 'sex tourists'. it would seem more fitting to call this website something else, such as 'bkk-living'.
and the word, "whore" like I said, means 'women who have sex for money'. if you don't believe me, please look it up on the dictionary. i'm just stating facts. your thai girls have sex in exchange for money. it's a simple fact.
this is like calling my nigerian co-worker black and getting some white people on the sideline offended because I didn't call him african-american.
perhaps this is the drawback to any forum conversations. had you been talking to me in person, you'd know immediately that I didn't associate anything negative with my diction. and if I offend people, I always apologize and choose a different diction. in this light, i'm sorry for my choice of words. I really am. and if you let me know which terms you prefer, i'll use that instead on this forum.
however, if you rather not use any words like the 'monger' incident earlier, I beg you to ask yourself, how do you want me to carry on a conversation with any depth in an attempt to get anything other than sex out of this forum?

As I said, from my extreme vantage point, sex in Thailand is just a part of life, and needn't be separated from it. Coming from America, and knowing nothing about Thailand or its culture, I can see how the sex part may be your only interest. But those of us extremists who have lived in Thailand, have a completely different frame of reference.
Last, best advice: keep your yap shut and read, and when you get to BKK, keep your eyes open and listen.

They're still prostitutes though, aren't they? Maybe different from back home, but still selling sex for money, still interested generally in flipping you into someone sending them money, generally interested in finding a farang to marry so that they can get out of the bar. Different dangers to back home, maybe (I don't really know about prostitutes back home) but still worth keeping that in mind, surely? Otherwise you run the risk of falling in love with one who is just playing you.

i think we're all on the same page as far as paying for sex is concerned--we all acknowledge we pay for sex one way or the other. it's just that in thailand, because sex is so culturally accepted, working at utopia (as an example) is just viewed as ie) being a waitress in usa. I then asked what to call them instead, but we won't go there again.
and I think they rejected all western vocab's such as whore, prostitute, working girls, etc. because these western terms inherently carry negative connotation. their point is that there should be zero negative connotation because sex is a culturally acceptable form of service, labor, means to make living, etc. etc.
stories i've heard about thai 'working girls' is that they have their sugadaddy's send them money while they continue to work in the club. in fact, isnt one of the links from bkk home page directed to private investigator service for this very fear? there's a huge discrepancy here, but looks like the minority must give the majority the benefit of the doubt. either way, it makes the trip that much more interesting. even if all this was bs, at the very least, it sounds like i'll be getting tons of sex, which is exactly what I was hoping just a week ago.
