Before you buy one, I suggest you go into a real watch shop like Pendulum (Emporium or World Trade Center) and then compare what those genuine Omegas, Breitlings, Rolexes, etc. look like to street "Rolexes." You'll see and feel (in terms of heft) that they are a world apart.
There are outfits that make very close copy Rolexes (same movement and weight), but most only deal directly with foreign resellers of replicas (that is, you won't find them at the corner of Patpong and Silom). Also, the close copies are actually pretty expensive (relatively, considering you can find decent watches for that price). You can actually find fakes that cost you $500 to $1500 USD.

Depending how much you want to pay there are
some very good second hand watches to be found
in the World Trade Centre, many dealers come to
Bangkok to source second hand quality watches.
I bought a two year old ladies rolex with the original
box and guarantee details for 50% of a new equivalent
could not tell it from a new watch, the recipient was
non the wiser!

On the subject of knock off bits of tech. where is the best place to pick up films and software. and is there an electronic town like a mini akihabara to go to?
next year when I go back I want to get myself the most fake looking cheap funky rolex I can find. It has to be cheap and nasty. Its, its own cheek.

For computer gear, Panthip Plaza is the place to go. On one trip I bought enough software to pay for the trip. You can get thre by BTS use the Silom Line and get off at Ratchhewi N1 ststion walk in the same direction the train is going and the first major street make a right and it's a 5 minute walk and it's on the right side of the street. 7 days

I may suggest....
For: Software/Hardware/DVDs, etc....PANTHIP PLAZA is your place to go....
For: electric goods, small gadgets, cheap clothes, etc....MBK might be your best bet....
For: fake watches (depending upon your budget) you may try a "second hand" dealer....I got one offered to me at Siam Discovery a while ago. Didn't know about the World Trade Centre stuff....good point OLDHAND. Cheers!!!!

good fake rolex take getting down and really looking... I actually found mine at a vender right by suk soi 7 for 1000bht. It is beautiful... But its not like I took the first one I saw or anything, it actually took me a few weeks of scoping the scene out and I only ever saw my type there twice. I saw a lot of shit around though especially on silom.

A friend of mine bought a fake in Phuket and it looked very good, it stopped working though after 10 days, we went back and the guy traded him another for exchange.
I am very interested in the real thing but on the used market.

i saw some very good fake rolexes in MBK on the fourth floor as soon as you get off the escalator. small shop named "Kaews watch repair" they dont have it on display, but you have to ask. i think this is the same for any other watch store. just have to ask if they have rolexes. then they will bust some out from their fanny waist bag. runs about 4000B and up, sometimes lower. not worth it. you can buy a real one for $3000. instead of collecting 4 or five of these fakes.
but beware: even though these are high quality fakes. a true rolex collector would know the difference off hand. the fonts are a little off. and the thickness of the watch is a little more. if there is a sticker in the back. it should be a hologram. the main give away is where two prongs holds the band. a true rolex should be flat across when the band is pushed together. so that the prongs do not protrude more than the band.
(hard to describe in words. but message me if you want an example.)
i can tell a fake just by gently squeezing the band while looking at the face of the watch when someone is wearing one. 8 out of ten times it is a fake! sometimes i tell them, but other times i just feel bad. especially because they are so convinced.
my x-girlfriend works for Rolex and this is how i have learned this info. but don't ask me to get a discount. True Rolex shops have no such thing!
the other brands that they try to sell are gucci, tag, Audemars Piguet, Piaget, Cartier. but they are not good copies at all.
The 1000B watches you can buy on the side of the road will rust as i have seen some already with rust trying to be sold. and very gaudy. too shiny, too big, fonts are way off. not good at all, even for play. and not worth customs to hassle oyu over this crap.
Buy the real deal!
