Bandit - You said something that gave me an idea! Yeah I know, good ideas and I are like cold war enemies but what about this,,,
Many chat sites that already exist support the creation and use of specialized/private chat "rooms".
In this case one could possibly link to another site that supports chat and create a chat room that is specialised/named for this forum.
If, on the given chat site, chat "rooms" can exist after all have left it then this would be perfect. On the other hand, if created private chat "rooms" are not persistent than instructions could be given such that one should access a given chat site and try to enter a given private chat "room" and if said "room" does not exist, how to create one and what to name it so that not only would one know that no one else is online but in the event that someone else does come online, the "room" would be there.
Other than the time that I am in transit between my home and workplace, I am online 100% of the time and would be willing to either open or maintain, as best I am able to, a temporary chat room.
I can not guarentee my ability to do so but I am offering this idea to BK as a possible alternative for consideration.

Bro, this is a brilliant idea for the chatters among us, one could create such a chat room on an existing site such as bangkokchat for the members and spread this information.
But I would not name this chat room bkktonite or something like this that could lead any TG into our forum.
How come you say good ideas and you are cold war enemies...?

I'm agin it! Because:
1) You all would find out how slow I type.
2) You would find out that I think slower than I type.
3) ABC would fall off his branch in convulsions at all the 'real time flaming' 
Seriously, I think it would be quite labor-intensive to maintain, and I'm not sure how much use it would see. ŻAlso, if some of us are in the West, and some in Thailand, it would divide our group.
All of that being said, if in the unlikely event there are a critical mass of folks who want it, I will donate to the cause...

I really like the idea of a chatroom, but I can't stand
VolcanoChat - I hate having new windows popping up
all over my screen if I'm logged in from work (no option
to turn that off, AFAIK). I'd say, use a regular IRC
network (completely free) and if you want to link to the
chat from a webpage, there are several java applets
available that lets you do that without installing any
additional software.

haam sup has made the most valid point.
We are all time shifted. As much as 16 hours, I think.
So if interesting topics come up, they will be missed my many members. And that would be a loss to the forum

Put Haam Sup's and Dave's post together and that would be a compelling reason to NOT have chat.
But again, it being cool to have doesn't really cut it as far as explaining what benefit it would be to have it. So far we have more negatives for having it than positives so does anybody have any ideas as to what benefits it would add? Over 400 dollars is rather pricey for something that is only cool.
Bandit - The side of my brain that is creative and the side that is logical aren't connected very well, are always arguing and have to send "spies" across to find out what the other side is doing.

why go to all the bother and expense of setting up a chatroom as a permanent feature.
why not just have something like....
some member has spare time on his/her hands (for the purpose of this post I'll use Boomarang as an example)... he creates a temporary chatroom on MSN - that takes all of 2 minutes, posts the URL of the chatroom in here for all to see, and those who want to go along do, those who don't stay here.
Obviously you could post in advance that there will be a chat session at 7pm BKK time on Thursday...
This is too easy.. what am I missing???????
