Thanks Padawan, you have a point. I have stayed at both. If money is no object, then the Marriott is more impressive. I just stay at the Majestic and spend the difference on a LT 
BTW, I was reading another post somewhere on the forum that said the Majestic uses the same key for the room and the safe. This is not true. The key for the safe is a seperate gizmo they give you (resembling a money clip). If you are security consious, just hide it somewhere when the BG is taking a shower.

Pattaya has the nightlife, but the beaches are not that great. ChaAm/HuaHin have "ok" beaches but the swimming/snorkeling is poor and there is almost no nightlife. Ko Samui has both in small doses, but time of year (weather) makes a big difference. Phuket has great beaches AND an active nightlife. PhiPhi has world class beaches and zero nightlife.
If you don't plan to take your entertainment with you to the beach and can afford the airfare ($125), I would recommend Phuket.

You might want to get some information about Rayong. I have heard the beaches are quite nice and there are some nice resorts there. It is perhaps 30 minutes to Pattaya and a couple of hours to BKK.
Sorry I can't help more but somebody around should be able to offer some insight.

The Marriott is great. I just completed a short 4 day trip. Two days were spent at the Marriott. Be prepared for the Marriott "Walk of Shame". They are guest friendly, but IMHO you will feel eyes following you when you bring a BG back. Especially during the day when allot of different people are checking in.
A good friend of mine was picking up the tab for the hotel. Since i'm in BKK for the girls a hotel like this is a waste. My buddy was there to relax and forget his troubles, perfect for him. One night I grabbed my passport and got a room at the Nana to use just for entertaining the ladies on that night. You can walk into the Nana holding hands with Charles Barkley in drag and no one will give you a second look.
Majestic is also great because as soon as you hit the door your at the elevator. On that particular evening I brought four different girls back to Nana. I could've just as easily took them to Marriott but I felt much more comfortable doing this a Nana. The room at Nana is only $20. Dynasty is also a great place for entertaining the ladies.
