BK, maybe this sounds silly, but why not use both tactics. So a specific newbie "catch-all" thread, and a cap on your posts. 50 posts sounds right to me, for say a month or so.
If one posts some really good info he/she can be awarded extra posts. But who's going to judge the posts. If you are, I figure you have a lot of reading and judging time ahead of you.
Sometimes I have a question to ask but do not know where to post it. Or maybe am a bit lazy and don't want to dig through all the threads to find an appropiate one. After all there are some threads full of shit, because people get carried away on a topic which is completely unrelevant to the thread itself. So this "catch-all" thread seems to me the ideal thing to this problem.
Anyway just my 2 baht for this one.

Do you really want to go to all that trouble? As an administrator, is the way the board is set up now a problem? Just because some one asks a question, do you then need to make a change to suit them? Remember someone wanted to ban members previously, and thankfully, the consensus was against that. I have recommended to many folks that they go to this forum, and join it, based upon the ability of members to post, and to create threads. I am sure others have done so as well. Let's not change a good thing.

What exactly is the problem here, boys. Is it some fear driving the red pen or the red pen driving the fear. As requisite back seat driver/inquisitor general what's the point. Mostly just to keep the fishheads out of the backyard, or stop the fishing altogether? Down that slippery slope you go!

At the risk of appearing to be guilty of my own accusations.... (by posting twice in succession on the same thread) I did a quick survey of those (beside BK) who have posted on this thread. Most have been a member for a shorter period that I (Some with thousands of posts), and all have been members for less than a year. Pretty new I would say.

I joined March 2002 and that makes clearly more than a year for me now.
"Catch-all" for newbies , why not. It makes easier to them NOT to misplace things.
