The amount I'm most comfortable with is 0. Zero. But zero is not an acceptable number, regardless of whether or not I'm comfortable with it.
So, what is the lowest amount in common use so as to have the girl not be upset with the transaction? This will generally be an amount that is commonly paid by other people; it is that very common use (ie, average cost) that allows the girl to not think it too low.
Obviously the higher the amount, the greater the happiness on the girl's part. If you feel comfortable tipping a new Mercedes Benz, she'll love you for it. Condo? Ecstatic. How about that island off the coast of... Well, you get the picture.
In response to the original poster, I'd say that 300-500 baht sounds like a reasonable price for a handjob, if such a service was not performed as part of the standard package of services. The standard 'tip' cost at Barons is 500 for a handjob. Wild Country, in the dark corner of the bar, charges 300 (or so I'm told).
Key is to know if it's part of the package deal. Sazanka, for instance, is a pretty legit massage place (back walking, scrubbing, etc) that also includes a handjob at the end. No extra cost - ie no 'tip'.

In Thailand for the girls, it is the "FEE" you pay for service..
You would not expect a plumber to come and fix your pipes for free, so why expect a bargirl to do that..

I'll remove the profanity I typed, and re-explain my point:
There is a price for service. It is not "whatever I feel comfortable with." It is what the girl is paid, on average. I am quite willing to pay the standard price. As we discussed, Oaktoad, in the Lolitas thread: The price, is the price. If I want to pay more than that, I can. But, I don't want to. I want to pay the price, and just the price, and nothing more.
Why did I make the point about 0 baht? Because this is a business transaction and ultimately the best price in a business transaction (for the purchaser) is 0 - therefore 0 is the most desirable price for these activities (in theory). Greater than 0 is expected, of course.
Is the price for services rendered 500 baht? Ok, I pay 500 baht. 5000 baht? Paid that, no problem, no questions, no bullshit. On both occasions, I knew it the price (small, less-small) up front and paid said price without quibble.
I don't have this "Oh, I'm from the west, and 500 baht seems to cheap to me, so I'll throw down 5000 baht because that's SMALL MONEY FOR A BIG FARANG SPENDER LIKE ME" bullshit going on.
Really, that's all my comment about zero baht meant - it's a statement that I don't want to throw my money around; rather, I want to pay what the normal, regular, unadorned-with-tips price is. Note that I stated that I wanted the girl to be satisfied ( "not upset" ) with what I gave her - that the girl would be satisfied with the average price, and not with less. Ecstatic with a lot more, but satisfied with the average price.

There was one more reason why I made it a point to post in this thread, instead of just ignoring it: The original poster asked for the going rate for the services described. None of the responses provided that rate. Only the "pay what you feel comfortable with" response.
One large issue I have with this type of response is that, even if you feel comfortable with providing a greater than average payment for services, you have to know what the average price is in order to know that what percentage over and above that average price is that you're paying.
Arbitrarily throwing around money is a fool's game. Know what you're spending, and why.

And now, let me pause in my recriminations to provide a more agreeable response:
Time and time again, I have been confused and irritated by the use of the phrase "tip" to describe payment. There was some confusion at large about this in the Baron's thread, as well.
Payment is payment - assuming services were rendered, one pays the pre-agreed-upon price, or one pays the standard (average) price for the sexual services so acquired.
A 'tip' is extra, not the bloody payment itself.
To continue with the Baron's example, Baron's charges 400/hr for 'massage'. This amounts to a short-time room charge.
The girls then have a standard rate of 500/1000/1500 for HJ/BJ/FJ. I don't have to ask, I don't have to talk. It's known by the girl, and known by me when I go in there what the fee schedule is.
In bitpump's case (see above URL), he stated that he'd paid a 500 baht tip. And he used tip in the proper sense - as monies dispensed over and above the standard price.
His choice to do so - and as he stated, he knew precisely what the going rate was, and what he was tipping.
