Another way to cut the b.s. with the cab drivers is to just take the Skytrain to Patpong, MBK, etc. Less hassles and less baht which means more baht for fun.
So right!! good point!! but I was at the Conrad Hilton and it was soooooo easy to get in a cab and go and for about 50 bt to me is worth it ($1.25) in U.S. with no walking at all I live in Las Vegas a cab ride like that would be around $15.00 but thank you for the advice Bob

RAMSTER> there are no cover charges 'fees' to see the shows you describe in the upstairs basr in patpong, if they tell you there are, you're in for a real fleecing so move to the next, they all do the same shit, smae shows, just some rip you off more than others.

I went to a live show place in Patpong with my TGF. She could watch the stage show with the razor blades etc. but they would not let her go downstairs where the live sex acts took place. I could go (declined) but they said Thai people could not go.

last week I was in Abu Dhabi & Dubai. One of our old friend mentioned that his old taxi driver in bangkok name Jadet still doing an honest and good job. Friend of mine had lot of feed back from his friends as well.
Some times a go, when I tried to pass this little good information to other friends in this forum, I was told if: 1) I have any fixed commission with the driver 2) or, I my self may be the driver and so on..... any way, it dosen't really matter to me, because now I know, there are dozens of people who always oppose against any good thing, every where. ( PM me for jadets number who wants his service and give me the feed back as well)

Hi there!
Comparing to to other parts of te world, taxi drivers in Thailand are very friendly and only try to rip you off for a just little. (1 $ or so..)
(In Italy they didn't rip me off, I just had to pay the fee $70. That feels like a rip off too!)
Here are a few tips.
1. From the airport to downtown Bangkok it's about 27 km and will cost you 170 baht. (add another 30+40 baht highway fee and 50 baht airport fee)
2. While in Bangkok, alway call a 'driving around cab' not the ones who are parked in the street or in de streets in front of the hotels.
2a. When you are near a hotel, pretend you are a guest there and they will help you with the taxi.
3. As a foreigner/farang or tourist lookalike they always try to get some more by making a deal. Just stay friendly, smile a lot and INSIST on putting on the meter. If he won't just say stop here or "tjoat tie nie" and get out, take an other one. (But 99 out of 100 they put on the meter).
4. Near BTS skytrain Patpong (silom/patpong) in the evening it's almost impossible to find a taxi that will use his meter. But just cross the street and things are 'normal' again.
5. If you are new in Bangkok, so is the taxi driver  So bring a map and help him a little bit finding his way.
6. Taxi drivers are unable to read maps. (really!) So you have to do it for them.
7. It's not a custom in Thailand to give taxi drivers a tip. Just leave the little coins (1,2, 5 baht).
8. Any problems? Just call 1155, tourist police. (Or tell the taxi driver you are going to).
