I was looking forward to stopping in for my afternoon cigar but I was met with an abundance of no smoking signs and placecards everywhere. Enforcement of policy appears to have started. Damm it.
It was early,but customers were sparce.

Yeah, May is when the enforcement was supposed to start - so that makes sense.

These placecards and signs have been in place since February 8.
I was sitting at the area near the entrance. One guy asked staff if you could while pointing at the sticker on the bar.
The staff member got an ashtray and placed it on the sticker so it was partially covered and said 'now can'.

Exactly the difference as a smoking room and non-smoking hotel room in Beijing. I asked for a non-smoking room. The bell boy removed the ashtray from the room.

The official date of the new law coming in effect was February 8 with a 3 month grace period. So by May 8 enforcing should have begun.
