I'm planning a trip for early June and was wondering how to divide my time between Pattaya and Bangkok. I've spent most of my time in Bangkok, so my knowledge of Pattaya is limited. My buddy has never been to either, so I want to spend time in both cities.
The trip will be June 5th thru June 22nd.
How would you divide the time?
What are the advantages and disadvantages to both cities?
I apologize if this has been covered, but I couldn't find a thread devoted to it.

The easy thing about your dates is its the off season in Pattaya. No need to commit yourself by booking a hotel room because I'm sure they'll be plenty of vacancy and at good rates. Just catch a taxi down to Pattaya and if you're not feeling it you can leave at will and go back to Bkk. After all, it's only a couple hour ride so no real hassle.

I like both but I like Pattaya more. Easy to get around less air pollution and it usually is a couple of degrees cooler then BKK with a breeze off the ocean.
Everything is less expansive in Pattaya. No problem getting BG for 500 ST & 1 K LT. I'm talking beer bar BG not GO GO stunner's.
I like the following hotels http://www.skytoppattaya.com excellent location one block from the beach. In room safe, TV,AC, fridge and girl friendly. Flipper Lodge is another good hotel. www.flippergroup.com

I personally prefer Bangkok to Pattaya, on my next trip in May I will spend 12 nights in Bangkok and only two in Pattaya. If you want 500 baht girls and are not too bothered what they look like then you will enjoy Pattaya, there are thousands of girls working there but the vast majority are pretty rough, in my humble opinion of course. Rooms will be easy to get in June, I stayed in this hotel on Soi 13, totally girl friendly.

IMHO I like Bangkok more than Pattaya as well, though it remains to be seen. I've only been to Patts once and BKK 3 times, so I'll have a much better opinion after next trip. Actually it kinda looks like your dates fall in the lower season for BKK too. The hotels do change their prices with in May or June in Bangkok.

If you go to Thailand just for P4P then there is no doubt, Pattaya IS the place. However if you like to do something else then forget Pattaya and stay in Bangkok.
During each of my 1 month stay I divide time between 3 weeks in Bangkok and 1 week in Pattaya, but this is because I have some work to do in bangkok, NOT because I think the nightlife is better there. Pattaya is nice but can get boring after some time, nothing much to do there than girls/beers/girls/beers...I m not saying there is something wrong with girls or beer, but one can opnly f*** and drink so much in 24 H (let say 5 girls and 5 liters of beer) and after that what to do?

I spent one night in Pattaya, and vow never to go back there again.
If you enjoy being totally immersed in a world of sleazy looking sex tourists who are looking for 500Bt ST's, you will be happy there. Nothing wrong with a bit of sex tourism, but in Pattaya you can never escape it. It is the main existance of that place. It is like having a whole city which is soi cowboy, and budget tourists. Just imagine the Suk Soi 3 and 4 area, and multiply it by 1000. You definately will see some FREAKS.
Bangkok has all varieties of night life, and people. If you want to go to a GoGo you can, but thankfully you don't have to live there. If I want fresh air, and not a bunch of farangs on holiday, I will go to a quieter beach resort island.
Pattaya is good for Sailors getting off a ship to party it up for a few days, and Old guys trying to make their money last, and who have no chance of getting laid unless they are paying for it.

I had a god first trip to Pattaya, off season, and a disasterous second trip (New Year). There is little to do there beyond sex with bar girls. The high season gogos will rip you off as soon as look at you. Maybe the BGs girls are cheaper and the street talent I didn't find too appealing. Icut my second tour short and returned to BKK. Beyond the girls there is so little to do in the day: limited shopping options, a couple of temples up the hill and some scuba diving to be done and the beach is hardly worth mentioning (crowded and narrow most of the day). Nothing compared to BKK for touristy/temply/museumy stuff or Phuket for beachy/diving stuff (yet to try Samui etc.). Man cannot live by BG alone...
