Thanks for all the advice so far!
I'm thinking the best would be Bangkok first, go to Pattaya, determine how long I want to stay, leave for Bangkok if I don't like it.

I am biased.
I prefer Bangkok.
It has a broader mix of diversions than Pattaya, and there are things to do outside of simply getting laid.
There are a wider selection of MPs in Bangkok, the go go's are better, in my opinion, and the Eden Club is only in Bangkok. That alone makes my decision for me.
It depends upon what you want, and what you prefer.
You will pay more in Bangkok, but I think that the caliber of girls is higher. It is also far easier to meet "nice" Thai girls in Bangkok, than it is in Pattaya, by far.
In my experience, guys who come to Bangkok first, and get started here, often never leave for Pattaya.
I think that you need to do Pattaya at least one time. It has its place in the scheme of things.
But overall, I prefer Bangkok, and I take Pattaya in small doses.
Just my preferences. Your mileage obviously may vary.

A bit of both really. I just find Bangkok more classy, Pattaya is full of Cheap Charlies looking for cheap beer and even cheaper girls. The fact that many of these girls are happy to be f***ed for 500 baht speaks volumes in my humble opinion.

As you stay more than 2 weeks in the low season, yes I think you should take a trip to Pattaya as well. There is more relaxing feel in Pattaya than Bangkok.
I admit I like Bangkok better than Pattaya.

Yes the best option is for you to experience Pattaya for yourself, and then make up your own mind. It took me only one night to see it was not my style. The worst case scenario is that you go back to BKK to party. However if you are doing things right in BKK, you should not really feel like leaving IMHO.

First time I went to Pattaya, I did not like it. My problem, believe it or not, was the *quantity* of girls. At that time, I was a newbie and I walked down one of the Sois (where Eastiny was) and it seems every ugly girl on the soi was shouting at me to come sit down. Sat down someplace and had about 8 uglies around me, I had not learned how to get rid of them yet. And they knew I was a newbie so they acted accordingly.
Finding cute girls (cute to me, that is) in Pattaya is harder work because of the quantity of girls. There are probably as many cute girls (cute to me, that is) in Pattaya as in Bangkok (at comparable venues) but their percentage is probably lower, thus your "filtering" process must be more defined.
EPC took me to Buffalo Bar on 3rd road... ahh, now this is more like it, some cuties here (cuties to me, that is). He took me to a couple of other places too that had cute girls (cute to me, that is).
I do like to go to Koh Larn, taken a couple of girls there but they were girls from Bangkok, we came to Pattaya specifically to go to Koh Larn or passing through on the way to Koh Samed. And there is diving in Pattaya. Not great but it can be OK.
I have been back to Pattaya a few times for nigthlife, it is a nice change for me for a few days.
Everyone should go there for a couple of days. It would be best to hook up with someone else who is there, and then you will have a better time.

in 15 trips Ive been going to go to Pattaya every trip for a look, I finally went on trip 15 and had a blast, only went for 4 days and had 3 mates with me. I prefer Bangkok but did meet a little darling in Pattaya so will sneak down there in future, could always bring her up to BKk I suppose, I just have too much fun in BKK, Pattaya was good but think I was lucky as I was with mates.

IMHO to truly get a good feel of whether you like one more than that other you really have to try Pattaya more than once, which is pretty much going along with CG's post. But true. I've only been to Patt's once, will try it again next trip. First time I didn't like it too much. I'm biased to Bangkok as well since I spent most of my time there. Regardless both places are hella fun.
