Weird thing about that - the girls I pick generally don't ask me for a dime, beyond food, drink, movies, etc... (which are my choice).
While I do not disagree that there are plenty of girls out for your money, because, after all, a girl's gotta pay rent, it's really up to you to curb that, or control that. A lot of it, in my opinion, is a matter of self-fulfilling prophecies.
Like everything else in life, of course, YMMV.

I was a member in the past.
The male to female ratio is about 200:1, so the odds are stacked against you.
Still, if you send lots of messages and are moderately tactful, you will probably get some responses.
I was corresponding with a few girls in Thailand, as well as some abroad. One was a Chula U girl, but after two months of emailing back and forth it fizzled. And I bailed on all the others.
Not really worth the money, imho, but not terrible either.
