At a Pattaya beer bar, what helps me is to fake talking on the phone while I totally scope out everyone in the place. It is far less obvious what I am doing and I can take my time and look around. Then, I can just ask a girl to come talk to me. If there are uglies that still hang around, I move (with the girl) to somewhere else in the bar, the uglies will get the message and not follow. Or sometimes I just talk to the uglies but if I don't want them around, I don't buy drinks for them. Once you buy a drink for a girl, she will likely not leave you alone for the history of when you come into that beer bar ever again.
In my experience, if I am looking for a girl who speaks English (sometimes this is good), then it is best not to speak any Thai. If I am looking for a girl who speaks no English, I ask where is the newest girl in the bar, one that is fresh from the farm. If you speak enough Thai to have a conversation, this might be rewarding.

Rule one (as CG points out) Don't buy her a drink! Once you buy a girl a drink you send a signal to all the other girls - even if you buy them drinks later - that THIS girl was your number one choice.
Talk to the ugly ones but make it clear you are not interested in them - keep looking around, polite smile, minimal eye contact, the same system you use at home with people you don't want to talk to.
If you see a good prospect in a bar - ask Ugly what the name of that girl "over there" is - ugly will know she is out of the running but can "save face" by then being the one who is giving you to "Lek" - Ugly will probably claim a favour or finder's fee from Lek the next morning if Lek scores a barfine.
Nothing of interest in that bar, start looking into the neighbouring bars. Still nothing - then pay for the beer and move along a few bar lengths and repeat.
Use this system and I guarantee that by the fifth or sixth bar the girls you start to see will much better looking than the first bar. By the ninth or tenth bar they will all be knock-outs. Easy. Enjoy.

One the matter of Pattaya Vs Bangkok. Both places evoke strong emotions in most people - mostly love or hate - for one or both. For a choice though:-
Pattaya by a mile. I really love the place. I love the easy going holiday atmosphere. I love the cheap simple transport of the circling songtaews. I love the variety and quality of the food. It's the only place on the planet I know where you get strange looks for NOT having a "prostitute" with you.
The beach atmosphere of Phuket, combined with the bar atmosphere of Bangkok for half the price of either. No contest. Enjoy.

Last time I was in Bangkok I just used little eye contact and focused on the stunner or stunners I saw, if any.

When you say "no thanks", especially to more than one in a row, it's a signal to all that you're not on the hunt. You need to overcome that impression with positive eye contact/exchange of smiles/hand motions/whatever with desirable (s).

Bangkok is a hardened city of smog and smut.
Overpriced girls, drinks, and rooms.
The tempo is a daily grind and exploitation of Farang Vs exploitation of Bar girl, in a high percentage of adventure.
The traffic and concrete do little for relief.
Pattaya has at least a more laid back option.
The Bars are within a Sea breeze reach, to refresh alittle.
Theres an offshore island option to pack up a couple of young newbies from a bar or disco, and have a "little" picnic next day.
Personally the choice of a sunset on the water and coconut tree and a blow job on the hotels verandha by a less hardened hopeful Pattaya newbie is preferable, to a bangkok Rat chick that is thinking of anyway she can "knock of your loot"...or "finally" seek revenge on the hoards of farangs that have robbed her of something she once "believes she had" 3 gangbangs....105 anal.....and 1,890 haertless f***s ago.
At least in walking street you can shout a meal, walk past the water and moon, and let them keep face, about their grim realities.

if you want contact with a girl why dont you just get in touch with them yourself. just wave them over.........its not rocket science.
does anyone ever notice the ones that cum to you are the ones you dont want. they usually have to be aggressive becoz noone calls for their services.
the hot ones dont go soliciting drinks they know they hot and act accordingly.
is it a bad thing for girls you have no interest in to stay the hell away from you.
im an expert on king castle 2. the ones that approach you r the ones who dont look so good......lol. they r good at getting drinks though, but they have to work at it.....lol.
