RUMINT says that Ruang Muang Soi 1 is owned by BIB.
I was also there on Thursday, and it WAS too full.
Good business strategy, if you have the juice: close Tunnel, pay touts in front to redirect everyone to Ruang Muang Soi 1.
SHRUG.

Ruang Muang place actually has a name, but I forgot it at the moment.
Actually is not owned by the BIB, BUT they definately have their hands in it. Which is fine by me as long as there is a decent place that is consistently open.
It was good there last week when there were not so many Farang, and a higher per capita of TG's. We will see how it continues.

wrong muang soi 5 it is actually, right?? got a namecard, strange name. thursday it was bearable, last night absolutely way to packed.
noticed on thursday that all the taxis in front of tunnel sort of automatically chauffeured you to wrong muang, we even had a private car who did it for 50 baht.
last night even all the bars on star wars street parade (lower sukhumvit) had to pack up.
been summoned to thonglor police station myself two days ago for orientation (but of course, the guy in charge was not there).
remember, new police chief in town. apparently he is untouchable. lets wait for things to calm down.

It has the highly imaginative name of 'Spicy Bar' and it's on the corner of Rongmuang Soi 1 and Charu Muang Road. Taxi drivers know it by this name. Last night it was heaving again with girls heavily outnumbered by lots of pissed, sweaty farang. Standing five deep at the single bar area took 10 minutes to get a warm beer. When it's this crowded the aircon can't handle all the smoke and neither could I.
The Tunnel closed at 2:00 last night and was quiet compared to the previous Saturday. Where have all the beautiful people gone - 'cos they weren't at Spicy Bar?

I actually looked up at the street sign on the corner as I walked to a taxi, and it was definitely Ruang Muang Soi 1. Not Soi 5. That is, or was, a different joint. I have not been there in several months.

There is definately a massive push recently for some extortion money going on at the moment from this new police chief.
Even places on Ekamai and Thonghlor are getting closed early. I was at the Ice Bar till about 1230, and the police were already at the door trying to close it. Earlier in the weeek I was at Sherbet on Ekamai, when it was closed at 1, and tonite the tunnel was closed at 1.
Spicey bar is going to be making a killing.

I heard the new chief was above reproach? Heard everyone is now scrambling to figure out what the new norm will be having a man in charge that won’t bend the rules for a little under the table action, and not wanting any of his subordinates to do it either?
To me that new norm would be pretty easy to figure out - everyone closes at 1. But apparently those stubborn subordinates are still trying to figure out how to go back to getting their cut of the action.
Farkers closed down Soi Cowboy last night at 12:30.

nana closed 1 am, 4 nights in a row. all the street bars were rounded up at 1am. thermae was shut 1am.
