I really don't want to wrtie a fr, so if anyone wants some info on Koh Chang let me know. Also a nice little island south of KC with a really nice thai guy running it and gets you away from it all for a few days, not luxury, but peace, quiet and some nice swimming in clear water and sandy beaches.
Also the hotel we stayed at in KC was the Koh Chang resort and spa on the second beach down from whitesands beach. In my opinion this beach is much nicer and quiter than whitesands, WS is way to busy and commercial now.
Some relevant medical info might be usefull as well, STAY THE f_ck AWAY FROM THE GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL. the medical clinic in the main street is ok, but they seem to focus on if you have insurance, asked me 7 times, they also charge a farang surcharge of 3k baht between 8am and 8pm and 4k baht after that. they also like to send you to trat if you have anything really wrong to their private hospital for treatment and the doc was pushing the emergancy operation idea, without even knowing what exactly was wrong. My advice would be to get a taxi immediately to Bkk if its serious, or a ambulance if its really really serious, or helicopter if time is of the essence

I just went to Koh Chang I stayed at a resort on Klong Prao Beach called the Panviman. The resort is quite expensive as my friend and I were the only ones of the younger crowd staying there. The rooms are OK. They need to caulk the upper wooden partitions in the bathrooms. There are cracks in them so mosquito's and all kinds of bugs come through.

Anyways, Koh Chang in general. I've been to Koh Samet twice and this was my first to Koh Chang. Even though it is about twice as far I think that a trip to Koh Chang is worth it. The island is very large and it is beautiful. They say that Koh Chang is the second largest island in Thailand next to Phuket. I found it strange with so many nice resorts on Klong Prao Beach the roads are still empty of development. The only places that are alive are of course along White Sands and interestingly I didn't find out till later Kai Bae Beach. This is a very good place to get out of fast paced Bangkok for awhile.

Has anyone stayed at Koh Chang Tropicana Resort? I'm looking for a bungalow that is not too isolated, has a decent beach, and isn't too busy and noisy. I'm bringing a TG there, so I don't need to be close to the bars.

The thing that I wonder about with some of these places, including the Tropicana, is that they may be filled with farang -- I see enough falang at home, so I don't need their noisy company on my holiday. On that note, as a getaway island, is Koh Chang generally filled with falang?

Check out the Banpu Koh Chang. I've never figured out what the name of the beach it was that this resort is on, but the resort's location to that beach is ideal. If you can get bungalow #1 or 2 you'll be beachfront and center. They aren't anywhere near as ostentatious as Panviman and the likes- but I do know their bathroom setup is caulked up tight.

Great little swimming pool and deck, nice out doorsy restaurant, girlfriend friendly. Been a few years since I was there but for the price [+/- Bt 1700] it is a steal.

Go to http://www.iamkohchang.com (which I have posted in about 2 other posts) they review almost every hotel in Koh Chang. Another good place is http://www.koh-chang.com I would book with this site as I noticed their prices are slightly cheaper. Though I am Koh Chang has better info.
Now regarding your farang question. There weren't too many on Kai Bae and Klong Prao and I'm sure even less more towards Bang Bao. Just stay away from White Sands Beach, even though that is where a lot of stuff is. It's really strange as the next town from White Sands is Klong Prao, yet Kai Bae has a lot more shops and restaurants. Tropicana was #1 on my alternate list when staying in Koh Chang.
Regarding bars, there aren't many I seen with girls anyways and I'm quite sure the quality you bring from Sukhmvit will be better.

I was in Koh Chang January,, stayed at what was a mid level place ( forgot the name) but found ourselves in the next door place every evening for dinner. It was called "Porn Bungalows" and looked very well set up and the restaurant was cheap and very very good.
Lovely sunset in this Kai bay area and eating on the beach ( if low tide) was great.
This place would be ideal as a cheap option. Moto rental here ( Porn Bungalows) was only 200BHT per day and shops / bars about 1 km away. Quiet layed back area massages on platforms beside the beach available all day. Porn bungalows did not have a swimming pool but if you really need that just walk next door ( not sure of charges) to the place I was staying in ( had great pool).

P.S good idea to arrange pick-up from ferry wharf,, the kaos of everyone arriving and wanting to get to their hotels etc means prices are quite inflated or you may be up for a wait.

Cheers

I was in the Tropicana resort and spa last november. It was the best choice I made here in Koh Chang. I booked a bungalow right in front of the beach for 5800b including breakfast, 1000b less without sea wiew. Calm ambiance days and nights, perfect sand - even when swimming, no stones or rocks but sand only. Never order meals inside the resort, go outside instead, the quality is improved twice for taste and quantity and cost less than half. I enjoyed the rooms filled with bamboo.
Concerning the farangs migration into this area, I think that the amount is the same as seen in other resorts.
I will definitely return to Tropicana resort.
I tried the Sea View resort and spa at the same period and enjoyed especially the spa in this complex. It is more complicated to go outside the resort as more isolated, you should rent a motorbike there. The plus is the affordable price for the bungalows - 2650b. Never ever go to the Grand Cabana resort. That's a rip off from the bottom to the top.
Enjoy your holiday !!!

Hi all,
