I've read a number of posts here on the effect of the clampdown on BKK and Phuket and was wondering if Samui is or will be similarly affected?
Was in Samui last June for a week and plan being there again mid-year. Its such a relaxed place and gives you a chance to kick back and take a break after playing hard in BKK/Phuket.
When I was there Chaweng was full of young westeners who wanted to drink and party to all hours. I imagine Chaweng would be hit pretty hard by clampdowns on the nightlife.
usually most palces are closing at around 02:00 am, but always some beerbars and places in not so prominent spots who are still serving drinks with the lights down.
Samui is generally much stricter than Phuket. All the main places are shut by 2.15. There is a late night place open 100 metres north of Green Mango passed the 7/11 but it is really only a restaurant with music.
Some of the hotels/bars do seem to stay open later on the beach.
Phuket is getting more relaxed. Taipan is staying open til past 3 at the moment and Safari is basically open all night. That's a big improvement on a year ago.
