Nong Khai

Dear all,

its me butz, and I am back.......back from Nong Khai prison to be exact. I have been released from prison 5 days ago and have stayed there since mid December. Needless to say that this was the worst time of my life. I will explain why and how this happened.

Currently I am writing this mail from Germany, since after this incident I needed to get as far away from Thailand as possible. No, I am not banned from Thailand. I am just so pissed off at the Thai system that I need a break to recover from a royal pain in the ass.

It all began very fast. Police came to my house on the outskirts of Bangkok. 2 moto cops and a pickup truck with 2 more police. My GF was out and I was left alone with some relatives from my GFs site. They didn&' t ring or knock and I was in my study working in the house. I heard some of my relatives shouting in Thai at the cops, and by the time I had reacted the cops where already giving me gunpoint at the doorstep of my study.

No rights, no English. My hands where tied to my back with some kind of plastic thing which nearly cut of my circulation. I was dragged outside in my shorts, all my neighbours where looking. The Thai cops where screaming at me, I also received some very hard blows against my chest and abdomen. I felt like this was my worst nightmare. I was so mad and scared that I couldn&' t get no coherent sentence in Thai out. I did manage to scream to my GF relative to call the embassy, but at that time I had no clue if she understood me.

Thinking about it, I don&' t want to even go into much detail about the whole process anymore. I can only say what I experienced in those first hours was the most discriminating time of my life. I was treated like trash in every way.

After about 4 hours in the police station, a high ranking officer approached me together with another civilian and they told me what I was charged off.

And no it has nothing to do with girls, drugs or the like. It was a work related charge that my Thai partners rained down on me to force me out of my shares in my former company.

I really had wished my thai would have been better, but I was just to scared and freaked out to understand half of what they said later. No bribe, and I didn&' t dare to try.

I am tired of writing this now, so I will just end it with a few remarks.

For almost 3 weeks I was treated like a piece of trash and left to rot in a cell with 2 other foreigners. It wasn&' t until last week, when I finally had a visitor from the embassy and my GF. The lawyer assured me that this was a crutch bribe that bypassed the official way. He apologized for the long wait, but admitted that there where no records at the police station and that tracking me wasn&' t easy.

I had to stay in that hellhole for another 2 days until I was released without an apology or the like. The only gesture was a free medical check-up at the police hospital, which was crap anyway.

I headed straight for my ex-office and found my partners to be in surprise. I was glad for that. Knowing that the matter had been cleared up the embassy. I allowed myself the liberty of knocking my partner unconscious.

My accountant confessed the whole thing on what real happened and we all went down to the police station to write a report on the incident. My ex-partner never charged me for the beating, however he did get away on the bribe, but resigned his position the very next day.

No matter if I got back out. I arrived back in my neighbourhood and all eyes where on me. I don&' t even want to imagine the kind of things people are saying behind my back. I made a quick decision to go back to my parents in Germany to forget about this horrible incident.

I have been here for 3 days now, but I am only going to be here for another 3 days until I head back to Thailand. There is a lot of mess I have to clean up, and a lot of explaining to my friends and co-workers.

I hope that things will turn out for the better, and I have decided to perhaps move up the timetable on my move to Japan.

Anyway folks, I am back&... ..

Butz

Holy Shit!

I'm just glad you made it out of the prison! Right now I'm just too stunned about the whole thing. I can understand why you had to get out of the country though.

Best of luck mate and I think moving that Japan move forward sounds like a really god idea too.

shoke,

After what butznutz has been trough, I don't think he'll find it very funny.

I haven't had the misfortune myself (thank every god there is), but I know what thai prisons are like, if you'd treat your dog that way in a western country, you'd be done for cruelty.

A little compassion goes a long way, but you don't seem to have any.

Feel so sorry for what you have been through, hope you can recover from that shit ASAP.

The situation happens in most Southeneast countries, police just use their power to take bribes. Foreigner are big meat in their eyes. Lucky you, they didnt put some shit in your pochet or house, then charge you as drug dealer. Some police PIGs do that! Anyway, so glad that you are out of the trouble.

Butznutz,

man that is really really bad...its good you are home safe now...and all is ok. its scary after hearing what you have said on how cunning they can be.

anyways...i think speeding up your schedule to Japan would be a good idea.

BKK Fever,

i agree with you. some would even start shooting without asking questions and cover up by saying that they have taken down the most wanted gangs and so on crap.

Shoke,

for your case it really took 9 months for your mother to take out the trash!

Butz:

Sorry about what happen to you.   This kind of thing happen not only in thailand, similar thing happen to my cousin as well.   Bkk fever is right, some ruthless people will fabricate and plant evidence to get their enemy in jail.  In the end, it all come down to money and your connection.    Good luck to you.

Butznutz,

Bro, I am terribly sorry to hear what happened to you and all you have been through. I am glad you made it out and thanks a lot for letting us know what happened, even if these memories might not have been easy for you to post. Except for punching your partner unconscious, I imagine.

Buzz,
very sorry to hear of your painful ordeal.  I hope everything works out for you.  Just relax and clear your mind, if your concious is clear, then let everyone else think what they want about you.
Take Care!!
