I am going to Pattaya, and I was thinking of heading down to Koh Samet (not Samui) for a couple of days. I'd like to know:
- any BG action there? what about nightlife?
- any other recommendations on Samet

The first time I went to Koh Samet it was ok ,but I did 't see any nightlife or BG's. If there's some action on this island I think it will be very limited. The first time I only stayed one day, and the beach was clean.My second time I went there the beach was very filthy,and I am not
going back there again. All in all Samet ok for one day before, but now no longer(boring!!!)and dirty!!!

There are a number of little bars and restaurants along Saikeaw beach, it's pretty quiet though, there are a few local girls but i didn't get the feeling that they are actively seeking companionship. If you want some sanuk i'd suggest bring your own from pattaya.
Samet is a good escape from the "pressures of pattaya"  for a couple days...

Actually there is one bar where there are girls avalable.
At least the owner (girl) told me so last year in october, the BF would be 200 bath.
The bar is Jonnie Bar at saikeo beach.

Best to bring your own girl but watch out as there will be lots of guys on the prowl who thought they could get action on the island.
Oh yes, watch out for the falang girls as well. Two of them tried to steal my girl!

I had thought of going there but it doesn't sound so good from your description. I understand there are very few cars/motorcycles there. There is another island I think it is called Ko Chang. Do you know how they compare?

Ko samet is nice little island to visit. There is quiet a few new resort since 7 years ago. And is only about 3 hours from bkk which make it a nice weekend getaway.

Koh Samet is where you go to get away from it all. If you found any BG action I'd be surprised. Usually it's BYOB there.
I stayed at Paradee, a nice resort but far from everything. Only nightlife appears to be at Sai Kaew beach which has some fire shows and late night drinking.
It's a national park. I don't think it deserves any special recognition IMO. Beaches there aren't really that much better. Not worth staying more than 2 nights IMO.
