depend on what you looking for in Koh Samui. If you want a party and hang out late at night then stay at chewang beach but if you want a be more romantic and quiet time then stay in between lamai and chewang beach. Samui Yatch club and Imperial is good choice

Sandiegon, he was asking about Koh Samet, not Koh Samui. Koh Samet is a 45 minute ferry boat ride from Rayong.
I didn't stay overnight there but I heard that there really wasn't any night life there. I went with my family for the day. This seems much more of a kick back and relax place than a night life place. It's a small island, a decent number of topless Europeans on the beach. Some guy was leering at our nanny while we were there so I expect he was looking for some action but unable to find it.

I did stay at two bungalows in two different beaches. However, I couldn't see any night life in there. Koh Samet is a pretty island mainly to have fun, meet people and rent the boat for snorkelling or to have the nice full overview looking the entire island by speedboat. I suggest you to buy bottled water at 7-11 before taking the ferry to the island. There are few restaurants in there aulthough a bit pricey if compared with the mainland. Have fun.

Maybe this is a bit late, but I was on Samet in April on the far side of the island. Very quiet and laid back for a few days. I thought Tub tim beach and huts (or something like that) looked good - the beach bar/restaurant there had a good vibe. This is on the main side of the island but a bit away from the busy area. I will probably go there next time in Feb 03. Otherwise the main area was a bit cheesy, trance music at the bars, usual generic backpackers from northern Europe.
