Kris
Hi all,

I am planning to visit Koh Samui with a TG from Bangkok for three days during the last week of November. Would appreciate any advice on where to stay.

Thanks

Kris

griffin,

Thanks for responding. I was thinking in the price range of Bt 1,500 to 2,500. I figured that should get me decent dwellings in Koh Samui.

As for the surroundings, something quiet and away from the hustle and bustle.

Thanks.

Kris

try the coral cove chalet. this hotel is located very quiet just in between the two action spots on the island (lamai and chaweng). very nice setting in the cliffs with nice tropical gardens, all in thai style. the price is thb 1,800 per night for a bungalow or thb 2,800 for the bigger family holiday bungalow. i recommend the last one as you are right on the beach with it. unfortunately only 2 of them in the compound. the hotel also has rooms but i can not recommend them as they are located close to the entrance and main road and therefore can be a bit noisy!
only one backdrop for the bungalows compared to the rooms is that they do not have a bathtub (only shower), while the newer rooms do have a tub.
All in all very good value for money, very good and romantic location!
you will have to book very well in advance as they usually tend to be fully booked esp. in the coming high season!

Try http://www.samuiguide.com for information.

They have a printed copy that you can pick up on the way through the airport in Bkk when you arrive.

Anyway the guide has places to stay as well as things to do and information on Samui in general.

griffin,

Thanks a lot for your reply. It is very informative and the coral cove chalet sems to be an ideal location. Will look at a couple of alternatives  and then decide. Thanks.

Hin,

Thanks for the website URL. It is very exhaustive and gives a lot of information on the island.

not sure if am too late , but i have been there this summer holiday and the EAST coast is horrible.
Nothing to do with Thailand but just feels like an second Ibiza. West, south and north are ok...unless you are attracted to these kinda places of course.

Kris,
Here is the secret about koh samui.. reserve your room in samui yatch club which is inbetween chewang and lamai. Next day morning get up and go to counter and tell them that you are not happy with hotel location and want a leave.. right away she will offer you to stay at chewang resort  which is right next to Imperial(the best hotel in kos samui). Chewang resort is right on the main beach where all the action is and you can walk back and forth from you hotel without depending on any transportation. Samui yatch club is nice and very peacful but is pain in the butt to find a taxi to go to main strip

Kris:
Another trip back to BKK?? WoW!! ha ha ha!!

Anyways, if you want to splurge on a hotel my suggestion is:  Tongsai Bay Cottage & Hotel

http://www.planetholiday.com/hotels/thailand/Ko_Samui/The_Tongsai_Bay_Cottages_and_Hotel.asp

This resort is secluded and very nice. The rooms are like little cottages on their own and even have a bath tub out on  the verandum for your evening enjoyment!! I think you can let your imagination run wild on how to utilize the tub!! ha ha ha ha!!

No matter where yo stay, you will have a great, relaxing time in Ko Samui. I also went jet skiing there.

The only thing that was kinda of unnerving was the landing at the Ko Samui airport. It's a hella short runway and a very small airport.  When you land you wil know what I am talking about!! ha ha ha!!

Have a good one buddy.
