Hi great report on Cha Am.
I know it is 4 months after your report but have you any contact details for "Charlie Place Hotel", as I can not find them in any guide, that I have of Thailand.
The reason - I wish to go to Cha Am in late December and as it is in "high season" I thought making a booking may be advisable.
This is due to my regular GF being "otherwise" engaged for a few days and I thought that I might find a "replacement" and enjoy a rest at the same time.
Again your excellent report drew my interest to Cha Am.

I stayed at charlie place hotel during new years 92/93 very friendly. there used to be a live music place , western roads or so. I made quick friends with the guitarist. he showed me some massage places with fish bowls. suppose they are still there. thanks cmore, your report makes me want to go back there. I guess I will early next month, instead of samet.

Hey brother Oldie welcome to the brotherhood. Sorry I don't have any contact info for Charlie Place hotel, but I wouldn't worry too much. Even during high season most foreigners visiting Cha Am probably prefer to stay at the better hotels with the free breakfast and the pool. Also since it's located on a small soi it's easy to miss unless you're specifically looking for it and know exactly where to look. You should be fine just walking in without a reservation. Peace

Have stayed at Charlie place a couple of times.
The rooms are new and clean, about 500 baht. The hotel is just off the main beach road.
There are a few bars, a couple of blocks back fro mthe beach road, with some friendly girls, so if you haven't taken a girl with you, it isn't difficult to find some fun.

Actually brother Grif that's the whole point. To BF your favorite lady ( You know, the one you just met yesterday  ) and get away from all the action and noise and pollution for a couple days. She gets to relax on a clean beach and swim in clean water and you get to relax and shut out the rest of the world for the time being. Not to mention the rewards received from a happy lady whos grateful to get a few days away from the game  . Peace

Gents,
Any updates on Cha Am, or any other suggestion?
Here's the criteria:
1.0-2.5 hrs drive ex BKK, will consider flying
Long term TBG to 'feel good' about the place
Beach for walk & safe swim
Some other day time tours /activities
Limited or no bar-scene
Cruisy bars with say, accoustic music or a little blues
Some nice outdoor eating
Decent GF accomm say 1000-1500 pn inc B'fst & pool
Night Swimming if possible at hotel
I want to spend about 3-5 days out of BKK and not have me or the girl bored senseless. I'm considering bringing another couple, ie: farang and LT TBG.
Quite a list eh? Great if you could help.
