Montydog, I only now got your meaning "walk in rate", little language barrier there...
So I think its better to maybe book only first night ahead somewhere or even go with no reservations and bargin good price in some nice place.
Afterall, its low season so there should be vacancy I think. I will look up those bungalow suggestions from net and made my decicion. Think better to start from Chaweng cause little butterflying is on my mind. Still, would probably change all that to Montys "Dynamic Duo" Still got the phonenumber?!

I must say that Samui is my favourite place that I have been to in Thailand. I always end up passing through at the end of my trip and it is nice to unwind after Patong, Pattaya and Bangkok.
I have stayed at a couple of places and the only one that I liked was Chaweng Resort. I got them down to 1200Baht on a walk in for a superior or deluxe (can't remember but it was the ones with the newly renovated bathrooms). Right on the beach at the South end og Chaweng beach. A big plus for me was the in-room safe. Clean. No guest problems even exceeding the double occupancy.
Do not stay at the Baan Talay.
There were a bunch of bars in the immediate viscinity (one with a great pool table and a gorgeous pool table chick) and it was a 20-40Baht motorcycle taxi ride up to the Green Mango. It is walkable with perhaps one or two beers on the way. Pickles cookes a good pig every night and is on the walk. I find there are some great restaurants, girls, bars etc...enough to keep me occupied for a week.
I find things are a little more pricey than other places. However, it is in Pattaya that I end up spending the most. I go crazy in that town.
Anybody ever been into that Kareoke place that is down one of the sois that go from the main road in a half a block and hits the lake? I think the restaurant The Terrace is opposite. The girls outside looked quite fine.

Trieu - Good massage parlour on Chaweng beach rd called Pink lady. Saw many hot girls & similar to what you'd get on New petchburi Rd in bkk.
Stayed at weekender resort on lamai which was dead cheap at just 1300b for a sea view room. Lamai is really quiet though so afeter 2 days headed to Chaweng which was a bit livelier. In chaweng a great place to stay is Chaweng resort, website where you can book a room of the same name. Stayed in a superior room at 2000b a nite but worth it as the bathroom was gorgeous, his & hers sinks, walk in shower as well as sunken bath. The room has a huge tv, cd player & 4 poster bed. Staff great & breakfast buffet extensive, right on the beach too !

I just got back from my first trip to Samui on 24th July after a stay of two weeks. In the past year since my divorce, I have been on three trips to the LOS. the first trip was to Phuket for 2 weeks last June. Then in January, I went to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Hong Kong. This trip, from 3rd June until 24th June, I went to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Samui.
I really liked Samui. Better than Phuket? That's a hard one to call. Phuket definitely has more girl action, but Samui has plenty enough in Chaweng or Lamai and is probably prettier than Phuket. I stayed at the Evergreen Bungalows. Although they are obviously older buildings, they are clean and comfortable. The a/c ones are detached, with en-suite, cable or satellite TV plus additional ceiling fans. Cost is only 900 baht a night. Smaller bungalows with just ceiling fans cost less. They have a website. I just turned up and signed in when I arrived. There was no problem at all with "guests" It is quiet at night there, even though it is literally in the centre of Chaweng, close to Soi Green Mango and the main Bar girl action. It is also on the beach with a good restaurant there for breakfast or other meals.

Wish I was back anywhere in Thailand for that matter. Call this an English summer??
It won't be until January before I can get back there. I do miss it...........
