Back in the day (10 yrs ago) when I was young and handsome, I never paid (with that understanding in advance - it used to be the best chance of getting a girl who was genuinely into it) and had loads of fun with great girls but plenty of horror stories as well (visit to the emergency room, etc) trying to disentangle from some BG who was convinced that she was in love. Though I haven't done much of it, I agree with TPE. It makes sense to keep it strictly biz if you don't want any hassles.
