Lopburee is not worth a thread, or I was in the wrong part of it, after 10PM it was a dead town, only light to be seen being a 7/11....
I tried Pegasus on my last day in Khorat, it is a rather long way from center of khorat,MP is located on the 12th floor of the Pegasus hotel, was quoted 1950 bahts for the girl I chosen, room was larger and cleaner than the other MP, girl was good looking but not so great in bed....aircon of the room was defective, not working in fact, so I did not enjoyed this place that much, for 980 bahts only PAZA MP is much better!
I also tried a Karaoke named Hi Class...in the same street has Pegasus, well.... spoiled 1000 bahts for nothing is all I can say....no action, girl being chatty but clearly not up for anything more than drinking and chatting....
Skip: well, in Khorat the MP ARE obvious, large signs, pictures of naked girls, large carparks, neons...you cant miss them...Dont know about Buriram, I was with a girl there and get to go only to a disco...If I have any doubt about a place, I just go in and look, dont fear to be eaten alive if you walk inside the wrong building and its not an MP 
In Khorat, does any of you know about a place named PUSSYCAT ? Seem to be a large bar with "coyote" dancers....but I did not found it...

During one of my visits (yes, I've been to Surin multiple times) we passed a place with pictures of ladies on the outside. Probably a 4 minute walk from my hotel. Thats the only place I've seen that I thought might be an MP in Surin. That being said I'm a little leery of walking out and looking for this type of entertainment when who knows who is keeping an eye on me for the little Thai lady in her stomping grounds. During this past trip there was a Farang staying 2 doors down and he was married to a Thai girl who I guess was visiting the family. All the maid and my wife could talk about was his behavior and all the girls he was banging in his hotel room. All I can say is no way the maid is going to rat me out.  Maybe the maid kept his behavior to herself but who knows how many people she talked to about the situation.

Cant help about places where to find english speaking girls in khorat, about transportation there is a train service from Hua Lampong (ticket to Lopburee is 28 bahts travel time being 3 hours...Khorat is probably under 60 bahts) or you can take the bus from Mochit station (198 bahts, 3h20 journey)

Excellent info from Madfrog and Skip about Khorat, though I tend to be a bit cautious there because I have a regular lady friend in the area.
At risk of posting in the wrong place I thought I'd just give some directions to the entertainment areas in Surin. The ones I know are mostly in the vicinity of the Thong Tarin Hotel. When going out of the hotel there is an area of beer bars and one or two Thai style sing song clubs in the area beteen the hotel and the main road. If you walk past these to the main road you take a right and then almost immediately another right. This puts you on a road a little longer than Soi Cowboy that is full of discos, gogo bars and karaoke bars. It is definitely possible to bar fine at the gogo and karaoke bars.
I have seen some very attractive women around Surin, but some command of Thai would be a definite advantage if not absolutely essential. I liked some of the beer bars around the hotel, one of which had live music (Isaan style of course) and I seem to remember there were a few unacompanied women who may well have been available. The sing song bars were quite interesting but I was unsure just how you would set about scoring there, or indeed if it would be welcomed for a farang to try and score. I was also told that there was a massage parlour at the back of Thong Tarin Hotel although I never got around to trying it. In addition there are one or two Farang cafes including a place called (I think) Farang Connection right by the bus station. I would guess more information about the attractions of Surin might be found there.

Papyaman: thanks for the info on Surin, might be usefull to me soon. Any info on the Thong Tarin hotel to share too? Or any hotel recomendation?
I had a great time in Khorat and will now try to spend a few days there each time I am in Thailand, but Surin is not so far and also has some interesting things for me in its area.
Of course understanding a little bit of Thai and not being too shy to walk in some "thai style" places is a must outside Bangkok, but really a lot of fun and "adventure" is there to be found, much better IMHO than the boring "what do I do tonight : Nana, Cowboy or Patpong??"

When I was in Surin I did stay in Thong Tarin, which seems to be one of two tourist level hotels in Surin, the other being near the bus station (I cant remember the name I'm afraid). As to Thong Tarin, I would say standards are acceptable though it is far from an outstanding hotel, nothing like the Sofitel in Khon Kaen for example. The rooms have definitely seen better days although they are liveable. Staff are friendly and quite helpful, and the restaurant is not bad, although there are good Thai restaurants close by. The breakfast is adequate, but avoid the cold fried eggs that languish on the buffet table. My understanding is that the hotel is guest friendly. However, I have to admit I didn't try to bring a guest in myself. I guess the main advantage of Thong Tarin is that it is well placed, right by the entertainment area I mentioned before. I think you will find the best price for it on the Asia Rooms website. Certainly the price on that site was lower than the price I was offered at a travel agent in Khorat last August.
I think you are absolutely right about the fun to be had in getting off the beaten track and trying new things. So good luck in Surin and have a great time Madfrog. And if you pick up any good tips for the rest of us I for one will be grateful if you would care to share them with us. Happy hunting.
