I have discovered a brothel a few hundred meters south of the Imperial Mai Ping Hotel (I think this is the name). Difficult to recognize from the outside, and must be able to speak Thai, as the girls don't speak English. Girls very pretty...but looked bored as they watched TV. Mamasan says price is 1500 THB short time, plus 150 for the room, this is expensive, I think the price can be negotiated down some but I didn't try. Blue sign in front on left side as you walk down the soi. I'll be back in CM next month, maybe I'll try one of the girls and report back. I do have a photo of the sign in front which I will eventually post.

Report from The Nation dated Wednesday 26 February 2012 :- Dangerous haze in six provinces ===================== Six province in the Upper North were covered by unsafe levels of haze, the Pollution Control Department reported yesterday. Air in the provinces contained fine particles beyond the acceptable level of 120 micrograms per cubic metre (mg/m3). The latest reading of particulate matter of up to 10 micrometres (PM10) in the province of Phayao was as high as 237 mg/m3, the agency warned. Lampang had poor visibility of just 800 metres yesterday morning due to dust levels of 200 mg/m3.This caused the air traffic control tower there to order a Bangkok Airways Bangkok-Lampang flight to circle the airport until visibility improved to 1,000 metres before landing, creating a one-hour delay. The air-quality testing point at Yupparaj School in downtown Chiang Mai reported a level of 128 mg/m3. A level of 173 was reported at Lampang's city shrine; while a station at Tambon Tha Si Health Promotion Hospital reported 207; and Mae Moh waterworks authority office reported 210. Chiang Rai reported 152 mg/m3, Nan reported 152 and Phrae reported 233. In the region, only Mae Hong Son reported a safe level of 112. Chief of Chiang Mai's environmental office 1 Apiwat Kunarak said the overall fine-particle dust situation was bad this year and might prove to be worse than 2007 for eight northern provinces in the long term. Some places had already endured seven or eight days of unsafe fine-particle dust - compared to two or three days of unsafe readings at most places in 2007. Apiwat said the situation was the result of people continuing to disregard authorities' request to stop outdoor burning, especially farmers clearing fields. Chiang Mai Public Health deputy official Dr Surasing Wisarutrat said officials had asked schools not to make students line up outdoors for the morning flag-raising routine and would issue a formal letter tomorrow seeking their cooperation. Some 50,000 facemasks were also dispatched to 25 district hospitals for distribution to respiratory patients, he said. Chiang Rai Governor Thanin Supasaen invoked the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act 2007's Article 15, concerning forest-fire control and prevention, to require farmers near forests to ask permission from their kamnan, or village headman, before burning grass or farm waste and to build firebreaks. Lamphun Governor Surachai Khan-arsa instructed officials and local administrative bodies in Li, Thung Hua Chang, Ban Hong, Pa Sang, Mae Tha, Ban Thi, Wiang Nong Long and Muang districts to send 200 water trucks to spray all roads up to 10 times a day. Lamphun was recording 2,500-3,000 respiratory patients a day. Tak's Mae Sot and other border districts were covered with fine-particle dust created by outdoor burning in Thailand and Burma, causing eye irritation for some people, while motorists had to drive cautiously due to poor visibility. Flights operated as normal, although some planes had to circle several times before landing due to poor visibility.

For the life of me, I will never understand why so many people wet their jeans over Chiang Mai. The farangs...eh, I kind of understand. They buy the whole pile of shit shoveled to them by the Thais (and other farangs) that what they find there in some way represents "traditional Thailand" (never mind that Chiang Mai was a completely separate kingdom from the Central Thai kingdoms that ended up creating a country and swallowing up other cultures--Lanna (Chiang Mai/northern), Lao (Isan), Khmer (just about everything that's now Thailand) and of course the south (muslim Malays)...). The farangs buy all the scented oil/traditional house/massage/dance bullshit that the Thai travel agents and tour companies pre-package for them... But I have so many Thai friends who think CM is the shit too...what the f***?? Yeah, parts of the old city were nicely preserved--including the moats and walls that used to make up all "cities" in the region--but I think that is WAAAAY overshadowed by the goddamn ridiculous traffic, pollution, and lack of public transportation that makes CM a living hell in so many ways today... I recently went there after being away for 8 years, just 'cause, well, I thought I'd check it out again, and the TG I was traveling with had never been...but damn, two days there was most definitely enough...if I want polluted, crowded, urban Thailand, I'll take Bangkok any day, where one actually f***ing EXPECTS those things (and gets all the benefits of shopping, cafes, bars, discos, etc., which CM notably f***ing LACKS...)

Agree about the city itself- smoke and pollution - bad But Chiang Mai is a Mecca not so much for the city and shopping, but the surrounding beauty- I have a Brother who routinely sends me the most amazing photos of his Farm a half hours drive away- Some of The temples are also among the best in Asia (not just Thailand) especially the one on the nearby Mountain- Some tourists go there to go have an elephant ride along the river bank on a day tour- a couple of hours outside the city- The younger crowd enjoy the very cheap accommodation in the many hostels and boarding houses - and usually venture to Chiang Rai then Mai Sai up on the Meekong (Golden triangle ) I used to get up to Chiang Kong and go across to Laos- Chiang Mai is Lush and Green (not the actual city) around the major CBD- Airfares are cheap- If you like Cooler Mountain air you can go stay up outside the city in some cool boarding houses up on Hillsides- Chiang Mai has some discos has a bit of P4p going on- University girls sell pussy for 2500 long time Two or three Places in town have girlie bars and there is two go gos - But Chiang Mai really isn't a p4p haunt- All in all - I will agree with the assessment on the city itself- But hire a motor bike and ride out of town and you would be glad you made the trip- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRpRNp7r2Uc For a look of what I mean (outside the city) from the 4 minute 40 second mark on below clip you get an idea of the reason people go- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKB85hJbSxQ&feature=related

Chiang Mai has all the issues mentioned, but is so much smaller and convenient than Bangkok, and has so much more charm, that I believe the previous poster has strayed rather far from my views and those of many of our fellow Thailand fans. He may have noticed that Bangkok traffic is close to impossible if you are not near BTS or MRT. Try going to the Chaophraya River from some distance, other than by BTS, and compare that with going to the Ping River in Chiang Mai from say the old town. Not even a close comparison. The bar/girl scene in Chiang Mai is much more limited than in Bangkok, as I have noted in previous posts, and sometimes I bring my girl from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. However, when I am in Chiang Mai alone, I do find girls, it is just not as point-and-click as at NEP or soi Cowboy in Bangkok. Stay in the old city in Chiang Mai, within the moat, and you can walk to many temples and restaurants. Take a song theow and you'll be at the lovely restaurants on the Ping River in less than 20 minutes. Go the other direction and you are at the university and the zoo. Nice city, certainly has more charm and character than most other Thai cities (excluding old Sukhothai)...anyone for Khorat or Patong Beach? Yuk.

So I'll add my 2 cents to this thread. Chiang Mai has plenty of TGs to offer if you know how to get around and can speak. The taxi from the airport offered some girls from 2500 short time and they actually look good in person. The clubbing scene is where you can score as well. I found the girls to be very polite and friendly when approached. Again, being able to speak here is almost required. Best clubs are Warm Up and Monkey Club, all in the same area on Nimmanhaemin Road. There are some real lookers in these clubs. There is an interesting restaurant where you can pick up on girls. A friend of mine invited 3 of them out to Warm Up and they all came. It's called Fine Thanks next to the canal. They are known for having pretty waitresses. Not as easy in your face as Bangkok but it's so much more worthwhile sometimes when you gotta work at it...

Wow, I remember when Warm Up started, didn't think it would last. I remember having dinners with my fellow employees at Fine Thanks & noticing the FLs at the bar. Hot Shot is/was in the ground floor of Porn Ping hotel if I remember correctly.
