Ah...can't remember...
Just checked my credit card statements and all in the name of an internet agency. Only been to Chiang Mai once.
I can remember I stayed in 2 hotels (both 4 or 5 star).
1st one was about 5 mins walk from the moat - big conference-type hotel, quite unfriendly & expensive by Chiang Mai standards.
Anyway, after getting in to the room at 5am, was woken at 7 by some git refurbishing the bathroom directly below - taking the tiles off the wall by jack-hammer :- ( Same next day - so checked-out.
2nd hotel was about 10 mins away by tuk-tuk. Near a lot of places that repair bikes (but what isn't?) - much nicer, more friendly staff, nice pool etc. About half the price of 1st hotel.
Sorry - can't remember the names - was on a long trip!!

NO Probs - I have seen good references elsewhere on the Chang MAi Hill Hotell with its own in-house fish bowls so that should be a pretty safe bet.

Sorry for being sooo vague.
Best advice I can offer on a place to drink - look on map for blues bar, get a tuk-tuk there.....and avoid it (dead quiet), but then walk about 30 yards parallel to the moat to a large open air beer bar - great, friendly girls & customers. When I was there, had 2 giant inflatable baloons outside, so hard to miss!

I will be off to Chiang Mai this coming Friday and as I read there are a few must do's in CM: visit Bubbles disco, Spotlight bar, fishbowl in the Chiang Mai Hill hotel and the Star XIX bar. Are there a lot of pick up students in the Bubbles disco, or just regular pick ups ? Any other places to visit ?? Thanks for the info.

That's John's Place (bar-gogo) at the moat, baloons are not there any more.

Not students but freelancers. Students you could find next door to bubbles at "Hot Shot".

Place opens around 4PM, so 5 to 6PM is perfect. Selection varies, some big boobs as well.
