Griff, "help" indeed! XP, since you have been there and have stayed at the same hotel I plan to stay at, can you recommend anything real closeby? Is the hotel guest-friendly? Will the doorman be able to help at all? Please advise.

yes, the samni thani is guest friendly, just check in for two person upon arrival. unfortunately the hotel is a bit of the centre of town, so you will need a short a taxi ride to the centre for the major action. allthough the horel offers some restaurants and a karaoke/nightclub i usually tend to avoid!

- Dozens of mediocre Hotels in Korart central, but mostly Thai style, e.g. Shower only, the old beat up droning air-con, tile floor, and maybe the double bed is two singles pushed together ... but then they only charge around 500 bt. For something decent, really only the Sima Thani or the Royal Princess, but both a little way from the town center, as Griffin mentioned. There is also a popular one down by the Night market, had a good massage parlour attached, sorry the name escapes me - but can check up if you very keen . -

I feel most unsafe as an American when in Israel. Israel's descendants (and mine) immigrated from Iraq with a dude named Abe some time. Not to mention the several thousand Israeli's born in Iraq. Bad place for an American, but probably more Iraqis in Korat. Korat sound a little a like Kabul or Koran.

I can highly recommend the karaoke/disco on the ground floor of the Sima Thani. The girls are very cute, generally very friendly. The hotel is guest friendly but a little expensive. Reservations recommended cuz it sometimes fills up with US military.
The irish pub next door is also good - cold beer, good food, cigars - but you have to bring your own GF. There's also a Japanese karaoke place towards the back but it's very pricey.
