I agree with both of these comments. I wasnt sure of Chiang Mai when I first arrived but after a couple of days there I realsied how much it had to offer in the mongering stakes. The girls are actually prettier here...maybe more so to farangs than the other asians as the girls seem to have darker skin and wider noses (less western looking) but they are very nice indeed. You do have to work harder than in the likes of Pattaya, Bkk for certain to find a girl, but this usually only involves asking a couple of local thai taxi/tuk tuk drivers and they will be more than happy to show you the splendours of Chiang Mai and the surrounding villages. I would say that for those of us who want everything put on a plate to eat should not venture here but for those of us who are prepared to make the food and help put the food onto the plate you will be very well rewarded. The girls are certainly friendlier here and cheaper and are more willing to go the extra mile to please.
and dont get me started on how fantastic the food is...ENJOY!

I was in CXM for 2 wks and am not familiar with the term. Where are those places Bunnies and Violins or whatever. I only know of CMH MP, Sayuri, one hotel E of Ping River for action as well as the cruddola bars along LK Rd.

I had a meal at The Riverside on my last night, it was quite early 9-10 ish so not much talent on show.
Live music so I guess it stays open quite late, must check it out better next time.
FWIW I like CM, went with 3 non bar girls, but I do miss the Sea

Farang/Tourist venues in CM :
suck to high heaven
the sellers don't pay attention to your needs, they could give a f***, as long as they're gettin' paid
I've had heaps of them walk right into me as if I wasn't even there, like they're not paying attention
reminds of the Gwai Lo syndrome in Hong Kong 
classic example
the gal gets called out of the booth at MP
she should come out and wai the guest/customer introduce herself etc, well not in CM
they hide by the exit waiting for the punter to pay the cashier, total BullShit
go-go gal from SpotLight on the phone, come to Spicy and have dinner... sure
get there, she realizes it's you, but doesn't say hello, doesn't ask what you want to eat, but instead goes up with her back facing you and starts to order another round of whatever while miss 5k LT (her companion) looks on, also not saying Hello
service industry here is horrid, can't imagine why so many tourists travel from so far around the World to be here
they see us as a meal ticket and nothing more, like we're not even humans, it's really despicable
non-Falahng/Tourist side :
if you can manage to stay up late, speak Thai, eat Thai, etc, then you are in like Flynn, Bob's your Uncle 
the town starts to close around 11pm, first the restaurants, then the Night BIZARRE (12am), then the bars (1am, some 2am)
then the shit happens. Many places that are open earlier start to get ransacked with customers at 2am, and apparently they stay pretty well populated until the wee hours
BTW, if you'r into KTV-Karaoke, you could get laid 7 ways from Sunday
if you're into shaking your bootey until sunrise, same applies
normally non P4P birds are exceptionally polite, and I love their dialect, much more feminine sounding that central Thai, and it's easy to spot/hear a Kon Meuang Pood ( or Ooh - Northern for Speak/Pood)
on the other hand the service in just about EVERY industry is a joke
example 1 :
into BK book store to buy a ChiangMai Mail newspaper after seeing the sticker on the foyer
the bloke who's arranging books in the shelve can't be bothered to help me, or at least ask WTF I want
I was IN the shop right behind the bloke, and he never bothered to turn and face me, but YES he DID see me there
I stared at him thru the window from the outside a while later while holding a copy of CM Mail that I got from some other shop, f***er ! !
example 2 :
sat next to some twit of a BG, nice figure, young, unusual for Loi Kroh
all she could give a shit about is getting me to buy her Tequila
meanwhile the cashier has let it slip that she's waiting for some other guy to come back
but she's still asking me to buy her Tequilas and says she'll go with me, but isn't having it when I talk about paying bar fine (this means some other c*** already paid BF and he's clever enough to leave her behind to get drunk on some other blokes dime, well not mine)
they treat us all like ignorant tourists if they're in an Industry related to it
all-in-all, I love CM, but hate the cancer of tourist bullshit
but they have to make money
if you cum up here, don't even bother with Loi Kroh Road unless you like skank hos, or like gettin' your wallet bled by a cute gal who's waiting for someone else
if you wanna have a drink there, fine, but don't expect to find miss right
I've seen some of the ugliest TGs here attached to Falahngs
