That bus ride sounds very high to me, but not sure never took the bus. Look at this thread for the website Mel Gibson talks about and if you are going to spend that much on a cab, which I think is the cost, you may as well book a mini-bus that will take you directly to the resort you are staying at. http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=10&topic=416&start=0

I have checked out the "iamkohchang' website. It mentions bus ticket is 230 B one way. Add the cab fare in Bkk and transfer fare from Trat to the pier, total transportation cost for a 2-person round trip would approach my estimated level. Yeah, it discusses one more option -- pre-arranged mini-van from BKK hotel right directly to the resort in the island. Appro 5000 B one way. This sounds good for 4-5 person traveling together. If only two person traveling, the pre-arranged mini-van option comes to about same cost as flying.

230 is with local bus I guess? With the petrol price so high now I do think you will get under 5000 for private van

I visited the Mankeyto Bar Saturday night, and was quite pleased with the results. Acutally, was having dinner next door at Noung Bao Kitchen (excellent seafood pad thai for 40 baht), and spotted a cutie walking on the street. Following where she was headed, and it was this bar. Bar fine 300, LT 1000, good attitude, and she loved my room at the Sea View Resort.

I've been up and down on Koh Chang (including the Mangrove forests on the other side of the island), and invariably keep coming back to White Sand Beach as having the best of all convenient and comfortable amenities -- location, conveniences, nice beach, accessible stores / food / bistros, etc... It really depends on what you are looking for, in order to qualify what 'the best' is.

Hello anyone,i been to Koh Chang 2 weeks ago, matter of fact i've left LOS a few hours before the airport closure who seems to be finally over,i been SO lucky! It was my 2nd trip to that wonderful piece of paradise, and after 5 years sure the things has changed, looks like a Phuket copycat, just with less tourism and quite cheaper. Seen loads of russians there, mixed with backpackers and couples. There is plenty of accomodations,so u may try going there also without reservation and find a place to stay, expect to pay 1.5 k for a decent bungalow with the high season ready to commence: Choose Had sai kaew to be in the most crowded place with shops, massages, travel agents and tailors, even a fast food and all the fancy hotels seaside(may suggest u KACHA Resort). Ao khlong prao instead is very quiet and without lots of places to hang out in the evening, but has a nice beach restaurant, wich is called LAY LAY THONG,great for lunch under the palms. IMO Kai bae is the place to stay, the right mix between the two places I mentioned, with a perfect location halfway on the coast, great seafood restaurants and pubs to spend a quiet evening, and yes there are two 7/11 ! I stayed at KAI BAE HUT RESORT and was so glad with my choice. Then there's Lonely beach who is mostly backpackers and cheap bungalows from what I saw...but may have the best scenery. The only rule on koh chang is that u have to rent a motorbike to really enjoy and explore, watch sunsets, waterfalls and so on...plenty of daytime activities. And the nightlife,well...on had sai kaew there are the occasional beer bars scattered on the stretch of road and a beer bar complex wich seemed quite huge... OR watch the fireshow at sabay bar (in front of chester's grill) and then listen some live music in the disco and keep your eyes open for a night companion, seemed pretty lively when I went there, definitively girls were approachable. But then again,as I did, my advice is,,,BYOG. Please feel free to PM me for details and tips. Cheers,Andre.
