Quote: from retiredintahoe on 12:26 pm on May 22, 2010 ...Yeah, I thought about that as well. Another member told me, during a phone call, that some protesters had their ID cards taken to ensure that they stayed. Was this just rumor - or is their substance to this?
The lad at our local car wash went on one of the rallies. He said he surrendered his ID when he went. But he also said he got his back when he had enough and came home. (He looks like someone who can look after himself in a fight) But there are rumours where I live in Chaiyaphum province that many people did not get their IDs back. No idea where they will be now if IDs have gone missing - presumably someone has them. Maybe the present Govt will decide to follow the lead of the previous lot and start its own crackdown on "drug dealers". Maybe we'll find out there were lots of drug dealers on the demos, and the Govt knows who they are because it has their IDs. Who knows? Stay safe. My take on this now is that people in our area reckon it will be OK for 3 or 4 months. Already I see yellow shirts appearing again when I go shopping. After things have calmed down red shirts will start to appear again (unless something like a drug dealer crackdown materialises over the next few weeks). Edit In: As a PS I find it interesting the demos broke up just as the rains arrived, so the farmers and agricultural workers were able to return home and start planting the crop. Maybe once the rice crop and then the sugar cane crop are both in, people will find they have some more time on their hands again. Just a thought.
