I am curious too. Planning a few days in Hat Yai in Feb. Any updates or recommendations would be great.
I may take time to go to both the east and west coast so if anyone has traveled this much and has ideas that too is much appreciated.

Now I understand why few reports or updates came in....
Spent a few days in the south. Started in Hat Yai, went to Pattani, yala, Narathiwat and Satun. No mongering in the latter just in HY
I stayed at the Novotel which was a clear disappointment as far as room quality. A chinese malay friend recommended Lee Gardens and I should have listened. There are plenty of hotels in the many district and more/less same price and policies.
Place was packed with Chinese Malay and Singaporean tourists.
As mentioned previously, across the street is The Pink Lady. A combo hotel, restaurant, bar, cabaret, massage venue. Stopped by there in the early evening and watched some of the "entertainment" which I liken to a junior high musical. Sort of a mix of karaoke and live singing with < 1/2 hearted foot moving that was (I am told) dancing. There were some real cuties there however most have B/Fs and only perform in the club. A few can be taken after work however most do leave that scene for the ladies upstairs in the massage parlor.
The MP ranged from 1400 - 2500 for the SLs. I went in 3 times and left 2 unimpressed with the selection. Took a sideliner from Chiang Rai with a great natural rack the 3rd time for 2200. She told me she was a night lady before and someone there hooked her up. Started in the tub with a lot of tongue and bbbj. On the bed, her performance was better than average. Lots of tongue and licking, good bbbj again and willing to work around the room with ease. Nothing too outrageous but overall I give her a B.
On the streets outside the hotel there are a dozen or so walkers looking for punters. Most I would not bother with. There is another street where 3-6 LBs are to be found (for those of you so inclined).
Beyond Pink Lady there are a few MPs scattered around town and 4-5 streets with karaoke bars. Stopped in one and grabbed an 18 yo, chinese thai (much more chinese than thai). cute as a button but lame as can be.
I will have to say there was a good mix with women from CR, CM, NST, KK, BKK, etc. At one Karaoke bar I fell in love with tall, slim hottie from Chiang Rai (not sure what it is about those girls) Unfortunately for me, she was less than enthusiastic and I walked away knowing it would be a pointless endeavor.
It would help for punters there to speak thai or some hokyin. I would suggest for a new-comer to get friendly with a motorbike taxi. Spent 100 baht and 1 hour and he can show you the 4-5 main strips (away from the CBD). From this point, you can go check them out and see what comes your ways.
One thing to note (which worked well for me) is that most of the karaoke places open at 9-10 am and close anywhere btw 5-10 pm. So you can start early at these places then move on to the massage and bar scene afterwards.
Most of the other places recommended on this thread are either closed or had no action at all.
Sorry if this is not a action packed FR but it was certainly not an action-packed trip
