It depends what you're looking for. I suppose if you are going to take a GF away for a while, then Cha-am is probably better. A lot less farangs than Hua-Hin, and a lovely beach. Also, there are some really nice places to eat, which are very cheap.
As for the nightlife, as far as I know, there is only one road (which is referred to as The Plaza) which has about 8-10 bars and 1 go-go. It's got a lot of character, but not many options TG wise. Overall it's probably a better bet if you are taking a girl with you.

The stick in todays column wrote about a number of farang Beer Bar owners being mugged in Hua Hin. Even suggested that this could be some sort of "official" vigiliantes.

The City Beach Hotel (http://www.citybeach.co.th/) also has a fun disco, the Star Planet Pub, which caters mostly to Thais. The hotel also has singers in the coffee shop at night.

I saw an amazing show at Beach Hotel disco. My TGF took me there and I was the only Farang in a pretty packed disco. The band had about 12 members and the 3 girl front singer did a series of Thai r&r numbers dressed in skimpy bra & panties. They were lookers & my TGF was miffed & kept distracting me. The birds kept changing costumes & all-in-all it was a great show. I would have liked to have hung around to see if I could meet the singers but others things came up.

While I was there I was going to a bar with a group of Thais and when we got there it was all boarded-up. I couldn't get a full explanation but apparently the owner & been bashed. They told it was over a gambling debt but ????

newbie here, will be in hua hin and cha am for 10 days golfing beginning of march need names of best go gos, bars and soapies and also current prices. I was in los back in 1989. not a day went by that I didnt wish iwas there. now its only 20 days away. any help would be mucho appreciated.
