I've stayed at 5 of the places on your list: Sea View, Tropicana, Ana, BangPhu, and Kacha. The nightlife is mostly clustered around White Sands, but other beaches are better. If you go there for the nightlife, you'll probably be disappointed, so I'd recommend staying elsewhere.
Of the 5 on your list I've stayed at, Tropicana is my favorite. It is nicely landscaped with a lagoon motif. Get a bungalo, don't get stuck in the building in the back.
I would rate the Sea View as my second favorite of the five.
Ana is not on a beach but is up the river.
BangPu and Kacha have some older bungalows.
My favorite place to stay on Koh Chang is the Amari, but is quite expensive in high season. Love the 50 meter lap pool. I once told the checking girl that the next day would be my birthday and I was going to have a cigar on the beach. Then, I found a large piece of birthday cake left in my room after my morning swim.
I once booked a Pool Villa room at the Dusit Princess. It included a small private pool in a courtyard outside the bedroom, also included an outdoor jacuzzi. There was a 10 foot wall for privacy, and the pool included a waist-high ledge for your girl to sit on while you're banging her in the pool.
One of the budget options I enjoyed was Nirvana, located on a small peninsula down near Bang Bao Village. There was no swimming beach there however, because of all the garbage from the village that washes up on shore. But I thought it was a good place for "getting away from it all"' and I enjoyed the huge stone bathtubs in the room.
Be very careful driving, especially at night, because the roads are extremely dangerous at the northern and southern ends of the island. I used to live an hour's drive from the ferry pier and have visited the island about a dozen times.

thaiaficionado, Thanks a lot. Good to hear that you stayed so many places. I am not that keen for night life as such, Though I may go for one night... that's all. I prefer a bit quiet area, but like to explore the whole island by car /taxi.
Room, food, spa,pool,Jacuzzi are main concern besides cleanliness of the place. But what is the stone bath ?

Don't know about the cable car, it's a very steep decline to the resort from the main road. I ride my motorcycle to Koh Chang.
A 'must do' for me during each visit is the tantra full body massage at Maneerat Special Massage near Klong Prao Beach. Despite the name, there's no happy ending here, just 90 minutes of great massage for 800, including an invigorating balls massage. Better than a non-sexual massage at the expensive spas, and for half the price. A Dutch guy runs the place with his wife.

Vox, No it is not impossible. Trust me. I also thought same way as you are thinking. In Chiang Mai, Tao Garden & Resort, I had my first Ball massage done..... it was more of a pain than pleasure. Great location at the head of White Sand Beach - the rest of White Sand "street" is right outside;
the sea view building has great views; has Jacuzzi on the balcony, with good privacy to enjoy your girl's affections; the rooms are modern and effectively brand new (well, 2 years older now) ; breakfast buffet is huge and varied; pool is awesome with a real wet bar, set in the pool, and the grounds are clean and well kept;
Note: internet / wifi on my floor was broken, and I suspect it's probably still broken, as there was no rush to fix it;
Koh Chang Lagoon (approx 1500 THB) :
older hotel, good location, reasonable rates,with both bungalows on the beach, as well as building with sea-view rooms; balconies in both cases; rooms are clean, but with a predominantly "wood" motif; bathrooms are basic, and clean; breakfast buffet is sparse and basic; internet WiFi is sporadic;
At night, the beach side turns into a restaurant area (common for KC venues)
Sang Arun Bungalows (approx 1000 THB) :
selection of older and newer bungalows, several directly on the beach, and the rest pulling backwards towards the main street; no breakfast included; basic - one room with bed, and bathroom; the newer bungalows have a big glass front 'door' (privacy curtains, of course), and the older bungalows are wood-construction with larger balconies) ; Beach Tango bar (a great little beach bistro) provides for food during the day, and the breakfast restaurants are right outside on White Sand 'strip';
About White Sand:
Several 7/11 are along the strip, as well as massage places and places that will do your laundry; I found that bringing a minimum complement of clothing is best, and dropping clothes that need washing off daily works best - 200-300 baht for laundry services;
Car rental is available from several of the 'tour' kiosks along the strip (all rent the same cars, it seems), along with cars marked to be for rent; be sure to select a true 4-wheel drive vehicle, as you avoid problems that way, when you go exploring, or when it rains; familiarize yourself with the 2 gas stations 
Snorkel / Scuba Tour: While you can arrange those at any of those kiosks as well, make the effort to head down to Bang Bao pier fishing village - it's a great little trip with plenty of sightseeing spots along the way, and it's straightforward (and cheaper) to arrange for the trip directly with the folks that are actually doing the tour.
We went with a belgian (BB Divers) owned outfit that had a shop directly on Bang Bao, and paid 800 THB per person for the tour -- and there were only about 10-12 others on the tour (unlike most tours that try to cram 100 or more on a boat). It's an all-day affair, and it gets you back around 4:00pm. Great trip to see and snorkel around 3-4 small islands, and hang out with tons of fish. http://www.bbdivers.com/
