I'm doing this from memory as it's 10 years since I've been to Krabi....however bypass it regularly...though not for a year. The main road that I use is from the adjacent provinces to Phuket. We pass the airport on that main road and usually stop for lunch at the interesection where you turn off for Krabi Town.
As I remember it it is about 10kms from the airport to Krabi Town, though I think it suffers a bit from the overpricing symdrom from what I've heard. Someone told me it cost him 400B for a transfer and as I remember that was a shared minibus. Whether Thai operate a bus service into town I am not sure...but I'd be surprised if it didn't. I also cannot remember if he said he was going into town or to Ao Nang which is nigh on 20kms further on again.
Krabi was a nice town as I remember it...had a sort of promenade and I had some great prawns there. Not great info, but I think the airport figure is about right.

Spent a year there
Airport about 8 KM from the Town centre - you speak good Thai so you will get the local price for Taxi (Plus a little bit) everying about 30% less than Bkk
Reasonable accommodation (AC) for around 600 to 1000 in the Town - stay away from Ao Nang for hotels farang Price)
Easy to get around - You will have no problem finding P4P as you are street wise
Local people are reasonably Farang friendly. Small place – 1 ½ hours south of Phuket by hire car. Very Very nice scenery. TGF would love it

Thanks guys, - dont know why but hard to get any documents from anywhere but the "Khet" where the originals were made - however seems this family [ want to prove deceased was also divorced] want the document first, pay later, TPE not fall for that story, so maybe I have to wait to sample some Krabi Prawns, - which will have me confused as I am a BIG fan and can never decide between Gung pow and Gung shar nam pla ... -
