Hey bros, by now you know I'm back from my visit to Cha Am and will be heading to Pattaya on Tuesday morning. Cha Am was just like I remembered it, quiet, cool peaceful. Just what I needed.
Now I have quite a story to lay on you so I won't bore you with all my screw ups like leaving so early that I didn't have a chance to exchange any money first, and panicking when I could not find any exchange booths anywhere along the beach and the only 2 hotels that will exchange money will only do it for paying guests.
Then finding out the next day that there's a branch of Siam Commercial bank further down the road with currency exchange and ATM, but screwing up again by only exchanging 100 bucks thinking that should be plenty to last until tomorrow and forgetting that tomorrow is a Budhist holiday and the banks would be closed. Nah, I won't bore you with any of that  .
Instead I will tell you about what happened that leads me to believe that either fate had her hand on my shoulder during my stay or the more likely explaination, if I actually had a brain in my head I'd be dangerous.
Wednesday night the 14th I go to a pub in Cha Am called Oskars. It's more of a young persons hangout with live music, but that's cool. I'll just have a couple drinks and move on. While I'm there I meet a group of guys from the Philipines who are there for a few days vacation and one of them says he knows a guy that can get them a lady and asks if I want one also. What the heck right?
So the guy he knows comes in with a lady for each of us ( And yes guys I made sure the guy knew I didn't want anyone under 20 ). He quotes us a fee which was reasonable since it was almost midnight and they had to leave at 2. We agree and he goes out to get the ladies. Five minutes later he comes back and says the ladies want almost double the quoted fee.
Okay my brain finally decided to wake up and realize that I don't know any of these people so I decide to pass and say my goodnights. I walk back to my hotel but on the way I pass a small soi and see 2 beer bars with their lights on so I figure I'll have one last drink before calling it a night. The first bar had the British flag waving so I thought I'd go there and show my brit brothers a little support, but the place was empty except for the owner and some old guy and they had the lights turned way down so I decided to pass ( Sorry bros  ). The other bar was owned by an old Thai man and there were 2 ladies out front so I stopped there and bought them a drink. The first lady was pretty but didn't speak a word of English. The second lady, well this is where fate put her hand on my shoulder ( Or grabbed me by the balls as hard as she could  ).
I know we've all heard it before, but lets all say it together now, BUT THIS ONE IS SPECIAL, SHE'S NOT LIKE OTHER BAR GIRLS. Well if you had met Nam you might be inclined to agree with that. Pretty, down to earth, and very sweet. We talked ( even though her english is only slightly better then my Thai ), I BF'd her and we went back to my hotel.
The next night I went back for her again, BF'd her and we went to have dinner. During dinner we talked and I asked her how things were working at that bar. She told me that she hated working in the bar and just wanted to go back home to Issan ( Did I just hear a very loud AW MAN HEAR WE GO AGAIN! coming from all directions? ).
I asked her if she was sure that this is what she really wanted to do and she said she was sure. So yes guys, I told her I would take her to BKK with me the next day and put her on the train back to Issan. The next morning she went to the bar to collect the money the owner owed her from me BF'ing her for 2 days and I checked out of the hotel and we took a taxi van back to BKK.
The train she needed to catch left the next morning, AT 5:45 IN THE !@#$%^& MORNING. We got up at 4:30 and took a taxi to the train station. We got in line to buy her ticket and she pulled the money out of her wallet to pay, but I nixed that idea and not only paid for the ticket but gave her enough baht to last for a few weeks in Issan ( Less then a 100 guys so you can all put the meat cleavers back in the drawer  ).
I gave her a hug and a kiss goodbye and PUT HER ON THE TRAIN MYSELF ( There I beat you to it ). The train left and I went back to the hotel and went back to sleep. Did I do something nice for a very sweet young lady? Is it possible that I may have helped to get someone out of the biz before it had a chance to destroy that sweetness? Or did Cmore fall for a load of horse hockey and she'll be back in Cha Am in 2 weeks after a nice little vacation back home, on me?
I have been to LOS twice before so yes I do know how the game is played and that there is a sucker born every minute. However this sucker is only out less then 100 bucks for train ticket and expenses. Not a lot to part with, in my opinion, for the slight possibility that maybe someone has just been given a second chance. Will she actually take advantage of this second chance? The only answer to that question is TIT. Peace

There's a school of thought that dates back more than a few thousand years that one should do what one thinks is right without thinking too much about the outcome (Disclaimer:this does not apply to serial killers, rapists, deranged individuals etc.). I think this might actually be from the Bhagwad Gita, although I can't be sure.
Bottom line: As long as you think you did the right thing, it's all good and you do get a credit in the good ol' karmic balance sheet.

Bro, I'm jealous, still stuck over here across the big pond from LOS! My vote? I'd put money that she'll be back in the scene, but maybe after a nice long vacation upcountry with her family. If she really wants to exit the scene, then you did a sincere and selfless thing. Either way, my hat's off to you -- your heart's in the right place and you are having fun. And that's all that matters. (BTW, did you get a phone number or email so you can check out her progress next time you're incountry?)

Just one question: How much did you tip her? Wasn't your tip sufficient to pay for her fare back to Isaan?
You can also be sure of one thing :
That lady will soon be back at a bar, if not at Cha-am, then at some other place. Once in this business , they very seldom leave -despite the fact that ALL of them hate it. They leave it to 'retire' at age 30+, or because they have been unfortunate enough to get something like hepatitis B, or AIDS.
I do remember a truly beautiful bar girl, in the Philippines absolutely begging me to hire her as a 'maid' (domestic help) to get her ot of the bar . I couldn't oblige her as my stay in Manila was short. That happened many years ago, but I still remember that
girl and the look on her face - wish I could have helped her.
