I have heard that it is quiet and a Royal residence.
Does anybody know Hua HIn well and what are the
impressions. I have been told that the bars are slightly
more discrete and the place is generally more 'Upmarket' ?

I've heard that it's a nice place, but that there is a lot of horse shit (literally) on the beachs because of the practice of horseback riding there. May check it out sometime if anyone gives an alternative point of view.

I was in Hua Hin during Loy krathong. I thought Hua Hin was very nice, slower pace. Alot of europeans there. Food & Lodging very inexpensive. Very good seafood. Took taxi from Bangkok 1500 Bht. Hired a driver/VW bus in Hua Hin for return $1000 Bht. About 2.5 hour drive from Bangkok. On next trip will spend a week there. The Bar scene is open plenty of women. Went to a MP, I believe Catherine. Went late, selection not very good, room OK, girl 7, although enthuastic, soapy, ST 1,500 baht. MP closed when I left saw 8/9's leaving.

Very laid-back and 'respectable' atmosphere, but there's certainly no need to do without BGs in HH.
Main bar strip is Soi Bin Thabart (& a couple of sub-sois off), almost opposite the Hilton entrance. A good mix of straight BBs, pool bars, bistros & the odd pub with live music. Friendly easygoing atmosphere, not at all rowdy, and easy to get hitched with a good-looking BG. Plenty of girls to go round, even in high season.
Don't know about the 'going rate' in HH, but I paid a very nice 24yo 1,500 + a bit of taxi money for LT, and she seemed very pleased with this.
I'd certainly recommend HH as a short beachside getaway for people who want a change from the Pattaya scene. If you stayed longer than a week, I suspect it'd get boring.

always willopt for hua hin compared to pattaya for the beaches. nightlife wise itis a bit dreadful.
the bar strip as described above is okay for finding some night companion, but do not expect any stunners like n bnagkok or pattaya like scene.
to my expereince lt can be had for thb 1,000 -> considerable cheaper than bangkok or pattaya!
hua hin i s a bit like thailand ten years ago, slow and peaceful very nice change!

Hua Hin, is nice place to bring your TGF. I stayed at the Hilton, had a great ocean view suite. Hua Hin is a great escape, or a place to slow down alittle. Met some very nice locals here.

Late jumping in..
Was in Hua Hin in 1997. Nice place, more relaxed there. Stayed at City Beach. Tried a girl ST from the MP who took it in the mouth but spat the gob out after. Hit it with one of the karaoke girls there and had some good time with her.

Hi, I would go to Hua Hin for a 2/3 days staying at Hilton, which would be the best way to visit Petchburi: with train or ot would be better to find a driver? I have heard that the near Cha-am is also nice and have wonderful restaurants, do yu think it would be good to go there for lunch or dinner?

Avis car rental is in the Hilton. If you go down the street to the beach about a block south of Hilton, were the vendors are. You can get a car & driver at the motorcycle rental. Very nice people, will not try to rip you. Used them several times.

I was in Hua Hin last month recovering from some surgery and therefore taking it relatively easy. Located the relevant soi as described above and although the bar scene was pretty dull and the selection not amazing, I found a cute girl relocated from Isaan via Bangkok.
We spent two nights and one day together and she gave me a fine GFE, much appreciated under the circumstances. We spent time around the hotel pool, on the beach, good sea food, drinks etc. at the Hilton and I gave her about 2500 B when I left, which she seemed happy with.
Conclusion: I found HH as a chilled out place too hang out and relax for a few days, with enough action to keep oneself amused and entertained!
