If memory serves, Nong khai did'nt offer much nightlife. It was backwoods in a manner of speaking. There is a crossing into Laos over the mehkong<(?)river and a realy good market along the river, that you can get some very good quality stones. The useal market things are there but cheaper than Bangkok. I'm sure there are some local type bars and such however I blinked when we entered town and was already at the market. Just before Nong Khai is a town called Udon Thani. There is nightlife there MP's, Disco,Beer bars, I did'nt find any agogo's But it's laid back cool place to be,and you can get atransport to nong khai from there. If you dont find what you like in nong khai,then you can slip back to udon thani. Hope it helps bro...

Nong Khai is definitely quiet, which is good if you need a break from BKK. I only found a couple of small bars there, but the women were decent looking and very friendly. There was an interesting bar called The Meeting Place, which was owned and operated by an aussie expat. He had a hot Laotian wife. Great place for a beer and to hear about the latest happenings in northern Thailand. I hear the place was recently sold.

Hi,
Was in Nong Khai February on a stopover into Laos. We checked out the bars and nightlife -- karaoke in the hotels, etc., and one major bar with lots of working girls (for some reason the name Caesar's comes to mind). It was friendly, but we found they were charging different prices based on skin color (this reminded me of the short-time places in Hong Kong/Kowloon) so we blew 'em off. On the walk back to the hotel (it was after closing time), the ladies all ended up on the street going home, etc. We were stopped by two ladies on a moto who said "Massage?" and then smiled and laughed. We said yes, and met 'em back at our hotel. we both did ST with the ladies -- both ladies were fun (I think we paid 1000 baht) and then slept well before heading into Laos the next day.

The Meeting Place was sold? What happened, did Alan kick off or something? Damn, I was looking forward to going there. He has/had a website with photos -- search for "Mekong Riviera" -- about Nong Khai and the bar, dabbled in house rentals, helped people with Laos visas, etc. I hope the new management is expat and equally amiable.

There was a big write up by Trink in the BKK Post several months ago about TMP being up for sale. I heard it did finally sell, but have no idea of its current status. TMP's website no longer works.

What a shame. Alan seemed such a unique character and I was looking forward to getting besotted with him of an evening or three. My new business is centered in Nong Khai and Vientiene so, I am going to be spending a lot of time there and less here in Bkk. This is the worst Nong Khai news since I found out that Tony Poe left Nong Khai and moved back to the States.
