Monday June 2003 This was the last leg of my holiday in Thailand and after 2 weeks; one in BBK first and one in Pattaya later (actually it was 10 days, as I decided to reduce my planned 7 days in Samui to 4 days so to allow me extra 3 days in Pattaya/Jomtien), I was in a dual mood – on one hand I was really looking forward to visiting Koh Samui but at the same time I felt deep down in my heart that the best days were behind me and time was running out too fast for my liking. I boarded a Bangkok Airways flight at Don Muang airport – the journey was short & sweet and the view from the cabin window, when were approaching the island, was absolutely stunning! This is Thailand at its best, picturesque landscape renowned throughout the world. Once landed everything went smoothly as planned and the hotel I was staying in, although a bit far from the main action, Chaweng Resort did live up to its website hype. I had booked a bungalow, a walking distance from the white sanded beach and hotel’s swimming pool. I immediately noticed that in here everything is so laid back (a change from the hectic and up-2-your-face Pattaya) – within minutes I was strolling in the main street, I got chatted up by this woman who ran a laundry shop (which it was just as good as I hadn’t done the laundry for a few days), very friendly and chatty. She then invited in her grotty shop, located in the side street, and with her broken English she was trying to tell me that yes she would wash all my dirty clothes (100BTH a KG) and also a Thai massage was available in the shop. In fact there was a small boudoir next to the main washroom, with a couple of worn out beds (they must have seen, endured rather, lots of action in there!) and if I wanted I could have sex with one of her girls (ST 400 BHT), while she washed & ironed my clothes next door. Only in Thailand……………………. I returned on the main street, intending to reach Green Mango Bar and I was countless stopped by motorised (bar?) girls and even kathoeys (never been followed by a Lady boy on a scooter before – ahahahah), got proposed by all and sundry. Harassed by tailor shop owners (the scourge of Thailand), dodgy car & motorbike taxi drivers (I got a kick in playing one against each other when they quoted their inflated fees. f_ck them!), in the end I reached destination – pheww. As it was the case elsewhere in Thailand, I found the place subdued almost devoid of any real excitement – few (single male) tourists and bar staffed by ordinary looking girls, who seemed to be on auto-pilot mode when calling punters to their bar. Something they have done for yonks and can’t be bothered to put in any real enthusiasm in their voices. The Green Mango was a real disappointment, perhaps I had high expectations after reading some much about it – maybe it was early (11pm) but I did return the following night at 1am and it was the same music albeit a few decibel noisier. There were mostly group of falang couples and a few opportunistic Lady boys – one of them grabbed my dick from behind while whispering in my ears (he/she had a garlic halitosis, yuck!) if I was looking for company. I turned around and was confronted by this “uglee” creature – sh_t; I spilt some beer on my shirt. I went to Dream Girls go-go bar, a few yards away – this bar has a glass ceiling where you can ogle at girls dancing; so it says their propaganda. Alas that night the upper floor was closed, probably due to lack of customers - in fact the place was pretty empty (11.30pm), I counted 7 punters including me. As soon as I sat down I was swamped by girls who were asking for a lady drink – one of them didn’t even bother to go through the same old tired routine and immediately asked to be bar fined (600 BTH) and quoted me 2,000 BTH for long time. Wot? Are we in BKK or in Koh Samui? Forget it! On my way back I stopped by a beer bar as I saw this girl smiling at me – I liked her demure and soft approach, sat down with her talked about all things under the sun; time seemed to fly by. She turned out to be from Isaan (I wonder if there are any girls aged 18-32 left over there, as they all seemed to be employed in the sex industry) – tall, busty and creamy looking skin. I was intrigued by the fact that she didn’t force herself on me, asking for a lady drink (I offered one after about 45 minutes of chat), nor she mentioned bar fine or go back to my hotel. Eventually I asked her if she wanted to go back to my place for the night, agreed on the price (1,000 to her and 200BTH to the bar) and headed back to my room. What a good night it was – passionate kisser, event better BBBJ; I just couldn’t get enough of her tits (I would say she had a western woman type of body & skin combined with the finesse & svelte-ness of Thai women) – after a prolonged blow job she swiftly mounted me and nearly impaled herself on my condom-less dick. I stopped her just in time, slipped a rubber on and went on for glorious shag – this girl really knew how to take a good pounding, never complaining but urging me on. The morning after we woke up and were at it again – after breakfast I had to ask her to leave, as she seemed to be pretty happy to stay with me. I had things to do so I had to go. In the evening I went back to see her again and she was all smiles, glad to see me. I was the toast of the bar; apparently she talked to all her mates about the night she spent with me. That was my last night I misbehaved in Koh Samui as the following day my BKK teerak reached me on the island – from the on I did all the regular touristy things; organised tours (inland and over-sea), enjoyed my favourite sporting activities (snorkelling & kayaking). I saw Samui with different eyes. Conclusion: I liked Koh Samui a lot; I feel it is better enjoyed as a “regular” tourist as opposed to a single man looking for sexy fun. I stayed on Chaweng Beach, which is far too commercialised and with the wrong kind of visitors (lots of back-packers and a few society drop outs) – the quieter Lamai Beach has a more dramatic landscape and traditional Thai feel. If I ever go back to Samui it would in a party of 4/6 people (2 or 3 couples), rent a place in Lamai and with a couple of off-roaders the island will unravel her beauty and charm. I flew back to Bangkok, stayed there for a couple of days and then I took the flight back to Blighty – while we were flying over the sky of BKK, my friend said to me: “Look mate, the 2nd time you go to Thailand is the defining moment, after that there won’t be come back from it. You are now hooked on this country - you may go back home, work, do the same things you’ve always been doing. But deep in your subconscious the seeds of Thailand will grow until you realise that you belong over there – life in the West would then feel meaningless and just like crack cocaine addict, you will do anything in order to get your next fix (holiday in Thailand). Would you then be courageous enough to admit defeat and start making plans to live in Thailand permanently?” Shall I? Sarge

Sarge, Great FR on Samui, I'm looking forward to going on my own to Lamai in January. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a nice TG (or 2!!!)

Gus, I suggest that you get motorised, while in Samui (even more so if you stay in Lamai Beach). Otherwise you are stuck within walking distance radius of your hotel or fall victim of the taxi drivers sharks. In any case do not expect an hectic night/sex life while in there; if you put a bit of effort (and look neat & presentable) you should be able to pull a local bird or two. Have fun. ================================================================= griffin - you summed it up beautifully, in your no-sense English. =================================================================

Sarge, The idea of being "motorised" with a dozen Singhas inside me doesn't bear thinking about, although I could hire something in the day to have a look around the Island. The taxis are not any worse than BKK are they? Even if at nightime it is 200 baht each way Chaweng-Lamai that's not too bad. Is it the Bahtbus type taxi in Samui similar to the ones they have in Pattaya? TIA

...i have to agree with Sarge, the Beer Bars, are in my opinion, the best place to find girls in Chaweng, the Green Mango was ok when it was busy (about twice a week), as was the Reggae bar, however the GoGo's are a no go!

Hi Q, It really depends where you stay in Chaweng, but to walk the distance of Chaweng resort will take about 20 - 30 minutes. There are lots of taxi motorbikes to hop onto if your feeling lazy. I stayed at a place called Long Beach Lodge Bungalows, opposite McDonalds, but obviously set back v close to the beach. It took me, at a steady pace 10 minutes to walk to the main bars. Be aware the the Beachcomber Hotel is not girl friendly.

Gus – I tell you something, with a dozen Singhas flowing in your body you wouldn’t give a toss how much the sharks (aka taxi drivers) will be able to fleece you. All will look honky dory and that TBG you had picked up earlier (whom your mates said she looks like the back of a bus) is now the sexiest thing since………….well since you last drank like a fish! On a serious note you really need to hire a bike or a scooter to get the best of Samui, there is so much to see and to do; you want freedom to choose where and when to go. You certainly wouldn’t want to be at the mercy of taxi drivers as you are expected to negotiate the fee every time you go for a ride. After a while it does get irritating being quoted/charged wildly different fees (from Chaweng to the airport, a 10 minutes ride, I was quoted anything from 150BTH to 400BTH – one way!), depending on how tough and resolute you haggle the correct fee. Bath Buses look exactly the same as their Pattaya brethrens but as ever in Samui you have to negotiate the price beforehand. Lamai is beautiful and largely spared by the worst excess of commercialism seen in Chaweng but the flip side of the coin is that in between shops, bars/restaurants and hotels there is a bit of distance and unless you are training for the London Marathon I would advice against walking to & fro, every time. Also bear in mind that some parts of Lamai tend to get a bit hilly – now where is that 13th Singha gone to, I hear you saying………… =============================================================== Q - Lamai is definitely the better looking of the 2 sisters (Lamai & Chaweng) – let’s put it that way, Lamai is the Shaina Twain to music as Chaweng is Cristina Aguillera. Maybe not….. I have tried to walk Chaweng from one end to the other and it took me about 45 minutes – without a single Singha inside, I hasten to say. Anyway I’m posting a link to a Koh Samui map, for your convenience: http://www.samui.org/map/ - just click on it to enlarge it and you’ll get a list of all hotels and places of interest on any given place. =============================================================== Have Fun Sarge
