I've been there twice, both times for around 3 weeks. I f'cking love the place.
It's not too busy, and most of the farangs there are old dudes, which means that if you're quite young and fairly decent looking you will a lot of attention.
A lot of people seem to claim that it's a relly quiet little town, but there is enough bars to keep most people entertained. The standard of the ladies there is also pretty good, and even in nearby Cha-am there are a few places (not easy to find) to visit where you can have a really good time.

Was there a couple months ago to check out the golf courses. Found the golf courses were not the best and in not in the best condition, but not crowded either for a change. As for Hua Hin, I found it quiet and mostly quite a bit of an older crowd. Hotel prices were very high also (around 7K/night for a normal double room) higher than Bangkok I thought if you want to be near or on the beach. Golf courses were more than reasonable. People were friendly and met a nice lady taxi driver that became my driver for 3 days. Simple phone call and there she was with the car or she'd park and you take as long as you want, she'll wait. No, not the fastest of drivers (sometimes a relaxing change), but friendly and was eager to help you out whatever you were looking for. And yes she was married with a new daughter also, so friendly meant driving only. She drove me all the way back to BKK for 500 baht and wouldn't take any more. Nice change for once, considering the Landmark wanted 5000 baht one way.... If anybody is interested in a nice driver down there, believe I can find her cell number and you can PM me.
As for the night life, thought it was pretty limited or I should say extemely limited (maybe just didn't go to the right places, course the driver said most of them go to Phuket for the higher season). Hua Hin reminded me of a very small Patong Beach, only for some reason it was extremely windy and cold (for Thailand) there and the beach is no where near like Phuket's, but quite a bit better than Pattaya's or Jomtien. Seafood was excellent and cheap there and everywhere. If you're an avid golfer and want to avoid the crowds on the courses, (the staff also takes care of you very well on the courses, and there's about 6 well known designed courses there all within about 10 minutes of each other) (also the oldest course in Thailand is there built in 1923), would recommend it, or a great spot to get away from the chaos of Bangkok. No traffic whatsoever. A good hotel and a one with a perfect location, but far from cheap, is the new Hilton. Again, Hua Hin was ok, but can't say I'd go again and I'm sure I missed a lot of the "hotter" spots if there were any. Take your favorite TG from BKK l hope she either likes to sleep in, eat on the beach alone, or can play golf!
