I'm about to book my ticket back to Thailand, arriving just after the 25th and was wondering what Phi Phi would be like for new years eve. Has anyone had any experiences here or would BKK or Koh Samui be a better place to see the new year in? Any suggestions would be much appreciated..Thanks

From talking to friends who go to Thailand every New Years, as I am thinking of going myself, Phi Phi will have lots of couples and backpackers. If that is ok, then you would probably have a good time. Samui will be more fun. Phuket and Pattaya will be a blast and Bangkok will be great but crowded. Depends what you are looking for.

Try to avoid new Years eve or Christams eve in any beach resort in Thailand. All hotels will charge you at leasst $60 extra just for the dinner.
Bangkok WTC area is full of fun in new year's eve and free. All events happened right outside the Aroma hotel which I only paid $55 for the room. That was Dec-2003.
