Hi Guys, Well our along awaited return to LOS is in the offing, already booked the Royal President (Sapphire Suites) at a seemingly good rate (1640bht + Sve charge) for a short stay in bangkok before heading off to Samui. Last time we were in KS we stayed at the Smui Orchid but due to the location and various reports commenting on how this place as gone down hill, decided to try and arrange somewhere closer to Lamai. Several places in mind, Bay view, Samui Mountain village and Samui Park, hence where you guys come in, anybody stayed at these places, are they any good and are they G/F? Before the regulars have a go for this posting, I have searched the forum but haven't found any feedback on the places I have mentioned plus any reports from Samui (apart from a few) are a little bit dated!... would rather stay in Lamai as the last time there we had a blast, also found Chaweng heavy going! So if any of you guys can help, sure would be grateful! Homer.

Been to lamai 3 times now and I would recommend staying at Lamai Wanta resort. They don't have a web site yet but you can contact them at lamaiwanta@hotmail.com. In high season you will pay about 1200 for a room, they do have bungalows at about 2000. Its situated right on the beach and about 2 mins walk to the main street where all the action is. The rooms are clean and have tv, air con and a safe. The staff are g/f and helpful. They have a pool and are in the process of building a restaurant and bar but that may push the price of the room up when completed. I've not stayed at the places you mentioned but think the bay view (which is a nice but expensive resort) is too far from the action and poss a bit quiet, also not sure if g/f or not. The wanta is good value for money and if your a regular visiter you may get a discount.

Lamai Inn 99 is an okay spot. My friend stays there every time he is in Koh Samui. Last time I gave it a shot and found it to be a bit rustic for my taste. The walls are paper thin and the guy next door was going to town all night long. My thai girlfriend who is not a "worker" deserved something a bit better. She is a nurse and works 60+ hours a week and I thought she should not listen to the "noise" all night long. Stay at Lamai Inn 99 the first night and look around. Check out some places and ask the prices. There is usually room to negotiate. LS

Recently stayed at the Samui Natien resort, which is at the north end of Chaweng. The rooms are a decent value for the money, but they charged an 800 baht joiners fee. This was frustrating because the sawadee.com website usually lists if there is a joiners fee on the 'notes' section of the reservation page for that hotel. There are guards at both the front end and the beach end of the hotel all night, so unless you get lucky and the guard is taking a leak (or a nap), prepare to pay more to play more. You can either pay the guard on the spot (wonder where the money goes) or have it charged to your room. If you charge it, the girl has to hand over her ID and you sign a form; plus the hotel comes by at 8 am. If you pay the guard, no ID is taken, and no one comes by your room at 8 am. My friend, staying in a different room, found out the hard way. I have also stayed at the Malibu Beach resort--no joiners fee there. Good luck, MRNG70

Sounds like a right rip off hole... If they came by my room at 8am, I would be checking out at 8-05am... B800 too!! Jeeeeeeze... Lagoon Bay in Cheweng was quite good last time. Top rooms. No Joiner fee. Top Staff. B1000 a night. On beach road about 1 mile from green mango on the LHS heading towards Lamai

If the guard pockets the 800 it is a good incentive for him not to go to sleep. I hate joiner fees and I wouldn't stay at a hotel that charged them unless it was unavoidable. Weekender Resort Lamai is good, I stayed there last year and booked again for February, and I am not easily pleased.

MURF - I stayed at Lagoon Bay in December - strolled into reception with a new girl and the lady there just smiled and gave me my key. Same girl or different girl. No hassles at all.

Lamai beach is fantastic. Its got the largest amount of open air beer bars I've ever seen. I stayed at the Best Resort. Had no problems bringing girls back no extra charges or dirty looks either. I think every hotel in Kho Samui is G/Friendly

No, NOT every hotel in Samui is GF! The more expensive hotels (Boat House etc) are not G/F. They may even reject your guest.... Samui Park Resort... I stayed there for six months when we used this hotel for our guests. It's OK. Rooms and swimming pool are quite good.
