I am planning of spending the last week of october with my tg at a quit place at the beach. I've searched the forum for some places and came up with te following:

Cha-am
hua hin
koh chang
koh samet.

Witch one should I take?
the following things are important to me:

I want to be on an island or beach that's not to crowded: not to many backpackers, young thai's and whole thai families.
The beach and the surroundings have to be beautiful:
(not pattaya like, even the belgian coast looks better..)

The weather has to be good.

I would really appreciate your views and opinions or if you know a place that is even nicer and not to touristic...

thanks in advance
sasha

Hi Namda,

I would go for "koh chang" every time, not to expensive and beautiful.

I went to Hua Hin earlier this year. Sounds like it would be a bit busy for what you want. The most irritating thing being the horses on the beach. Cha_am is alittle quieter. But in either case they do not have the crystal clear water that you see at some of the islands (Phi Phi, etc).

Also, I'm not an expert but I believe you are going to have weather issues (rain!) almost everywhere in Thailand in October.

Of those you mentioned Koh Chang mostly fits the bill. Not much to do though except sunworship and treking. The rains should have stopped by end of October.

IMHO sounds like a guy who wants to go some place exotic with out the hassle of a million kids running around and young Thai guys and backpacker types baying at the moon all night. Some times we want to be in the middle of all the action and other times we want to be a million miles away.

I have been to all 4 of your chosen destinations and Koh Chang wins hands down over all of those places.

Hua Hin and Cha Am are very similar, they are kinda boring and the beach is nowhere near the tropical kind you seek in Los.

Samet is also a bit of a dive really, baron and nothing much there, again not very tropical.

Chang is very nice, it has the mountains behind the beaches which are still mostly forrested, the beaches are nice and generally clean for Thailand, resorts are nice etc. Only begative is that there is not much night life down there at all, a few places stay open late, but it is a family destination and not a party spot. If you decide to go there, stay at the second beach, the one after Whitesands beach, it is the best and quiet, Whitesands is crowded, and getting dirty and noisy.

Also some of the outer islands are even nicer, cleaner and crystal clear water. however the biggest problem in los is rubbish and plenty of it washes up on the beaches and out on the ocean floor.

As for the weather having to be good, well you go when you go and the weather will be what it will be, you cannot control it, but should be reasonably good down there that time.

We were there also this year at new years. We stayed over on Koh Kham on the other island.

The only thing with Koh Mak is that when we were there, it was not even half finished, a lot of construction work, the swimming pool was just a hole in the ground. If it is finished, it would be a nice place, but if not, then it sucks.

There is an island between Koh Mak and Koh Chang which looks really nice, the water was kinda deep around it right at the jetty and water was crystal clear, heaps of fish swimming around and accomm looked nice and peacefull.
