Not interested in the part of the movie where you see the tourists living in the island. I'm just curious if there are exotic islands in Thailnad we could travel to. Beaches that resemble heaven and the easy accesses to weed are my first priorities. I know that there are strict rules for illegal drugs in Thailand, but comeon marijuana is smoked everywhere and it's not strictly prosecuted. Anyways, does these islands exist?

sorry to tell you BOL, but you CAN be prosecuted & end up in a Thai jail, which isn't much better than the the Turkish prison the young man ends up residing in the film Midnight Express 
The rules of this forum forbid talk of illegal drug use 
and YES, these islands do exist. Unfortunately, the one where The Beach was filmed has since been trashed by tourists & the vendors selling memorabilia

...and by the idiots that made the film and removed all the natural vegetation....
I dont know if anyone read the book but the whole point of it is....that there is no such thing as a perfect beach...

at the risk of being flamed or banned or whatever I find it funny that talk of illegal drug use is banned wheras this forum is based on talk of illegal prostitution
bangkokoneluv, you can still find plenty of beautiful and quiet beaches on both sides in thailand, one of my favourites is mae nam on the north coast of koh samui facing koh pang nang, grass is very illegal and will land you in big hot water don't underestimate this, but you find police presence is less on the islands

you cannot win it is their country, their rules even though sometimes not understandable, who cares if you want that come to Zandfoort (a beach close to Haarlem) in holland,Haarlem has hookers /Zandfoort beach and two shops selling you know what, you will not get arrrested., you will not get 30 yrs like a dog, of course no GFE, but what do you want syrup on your cornflakes...... man.

The filming was in Phuket, Krabi (Phi Phi Le) and Korat (Nakhon Rachasima).
The film crew spent a fortune on the works they did on the beach itself and the facts are
a) they received not 1 single baht in fines that were proposed for damaging the beach
b) The Thai government had a guy on location who was to complain about anything he saw that didn't comply. He had a direct phone link to the director and any complaint was to be rectified immediately. He made not one call.
I know one of the environmental advisers and believe me he admits they were waiting to jump on these guys. He said they were superb.
Of course the second the crew left the beach was covered in shit my the sorts of people who constantly bleat on about tourists and the environment. Late parties left the beach trashed.
The Thai Government (as is it's policy) immediately did a hatchet job on the long departed film crew.
Of course the beach you see in the film is computer graphics, it is not enclosed but an open bay.
Anyway crappy book (the guy couldn't come up with a decent ending making all the work prior, redundant). Even crappier film.
As for drugs...smoke on dude....you'll be just fine...no really....just fine.

I was at Phi Phi Le with Dew about two weeks ago. It probably WAS a beautiful beach and bay, but it is now way to 'overpopulated'. I stopped counting at 50 boats in the bay, and we are talking about an approx. 1 sq. km area. There were still a good amount of fish to see on the snorkel we did (we didn't dive there).
Just way, way too many boats and people, almost all farang.
They are doing an OK job keeping the beach clean. No trash to be seen.
There are many, many other good snorkeling spots nearby, you can hire the longtail boats vory cheap to take you out for a morning or afternoon. Despite the "tourist boom', Koh Phi Phi and the surrounding area is one of my favorite places in the world.
