I was wondering if there are any readers with some first hand experience of Chaing Rai?
I may be going to spend a few months up there soon.
Would like to know what the night-life/girl scene is like?
I have heard that there a few beer bars and a few go-go bars?
Are there any discotheques that have free-lancers?
Also what is it like to live there? Will I get stared at a lot?

I visited Chiang Rai in mid June and had a great time visiting the Massage Parlor at the Wiang Inn. It is just a couple of blocks down from the Night Market. The venue is on the back side of the hotel, next to the karaoke club.
The massage parlor had a fishbowl setup with about 20 girls working during a weeknight. I went for two different nights and had great service for 1500 baht for massage and full service/bath. The rooms are large and clean. The girls were very friendly and I did not feel rushed at all. Both girls were 8/10 in looks and service.

Ok, "best" MP is at Wiang Inn Hotel but the quality of the fishbowl is nothing to kill for.....same hotel has also a Karaoke Club, Torino, where you can find some lookers to bring in the room (hotel is girl-friendly)....
All the Thai/Oil massage venues in the Wiang Inn/Wancome area offer extras, half price of Bangkok...
Best pickup place is the Disco of the SaenPhu Hotel (named "Where elze") where you can find FL and get a taste of the local entertainment (whisky is damn't cheap)....there is also another joint in Phaonyothin Road, couple of Kms from the bus station that has some movement (MP+disco)..it's called SPERM CLUB (no kiddin!)

A little update: besides the renovation of the "Wherelze" Disco, now divided into 2 different venues, I've discovered a verrrry local place, just a couple of blocks opposite the Wiang Inn Hotel....twas a tuk tuk driver to take me and my pal in a small soi just behind the main Paholyothin Road...stopped in front of the gate of a wooden house, we got invited by the "manager": a dozen of girls where waiting for clients in the ground floor of this house, watching TV (as usual)....girls were very surprised to see farangs!
Quality was ranging between 4/7, most of the girls were young (not underage) and white skin.....
1,000 baht was the price requestd....no rooms available so you need to take away the girl....
How to get there? Just ask the tuk tuk drivers parked in front of the Wiang Inn hotel for ladies but not from massage or disco....and they will take you there in no time....

First floor Saen Phu Hotel has a nice disco. Lots of girls and some freelancers every night. Also there is a disco called Sperm Club a little outside of town take tuk tuk 40 bahts. It has also freelancers. The school girls are also appraochable in Chiang rai. There are a few lady houses around town. Take a motoboy to these places. 300-500 ST.

Tried the Wiang Inn Massage Parlor during september. Only a few ugly girls at the fishbowl plus 3 averrage sideliners. I have choosen a sideliner at 2000 Bht and entered a clean, but really small room with her. Small bed and bathtube, impossible to have comfortable action with her. Skills were not bad, but nothing to write home about. After my shot she did not want to massage me and prepared for leaving. Total time was only about 40 minutes! Can not recommend the place.
This was the only experience I had during my two days in CR.
Better luck for others?!

I have the chance for a quick (7 nights) visit to LOS at the end of September.
I will be coming in November/December for a month and visiting Pattaya/Bangkok etc I thought a change of scenery would do me good.
I have visited Chiang Mai beforeand found it OK, is Chiang Rai a bit more quiet than CM for beer bars,F/Ls etc?
The interest for me in CR is that I like TGs who look a bit Chinese, are there more of these TGs in CR?
