Group of us are thinking of nipping up to Golok from KL for a long w/e, one of the party has been before many years ago while working just over the border. So if any of you bruvvers have any up todate info on the hotel and P4p scene it would be much apreciated.
Hotel would have to be GF and in the old Majestic catogary.

If you mean Ko Lak near Phuket, I was there a few times on business (pre tsunami) and it was a great place.
My wifes cousin was making pretty good money at one of the new resorts as a bartender/waiter but went back up north after the tsunami. No reports since then, but I would be interested in hearing a FR.

No not an island it's a border town just across from Kota Bharu Malaysia it's a 55 min flight from KL. Then a short cab ride to the border for the walk across. So I've been told.

The real name is Sungai Kolok in Naratiwat prefecture. The Air Asia fly to Naratiwat. This Sungai Kolok town is mostly for Malaysian boys from Kota Bahru for some quick action, mostly day time action. But the town I heard has been quiet from the unrest and bombing.
Most Malay boys from Kota Bahru now travel a little further to Dannok, Padang, or Hat Yai which is much safer.

I have stayed in Sungai Kolok. This was before the bombings of recent time. Motorcycle taxis zip you down from the Malay border to the middle of town (about 1km away)
I stayed at the Genting Hotel, probably the best of an average bunch of Hotels - likely to be a 3 star. I see the rate is around 550 Baht today so very well priced, but I guess we are in the middle of nowhere
The Genting has a pool, & I enjoyed the restaurants food - a good mix of Thai & Malaysian available. I was wandering around the Hotel getting my bearings & to my amazement came across a glassed room with about 10 girls in it. It wasn't reallly a fishbowl in the MP sense as they were wandering around chatting, but its purpose was the same. There was about 20 pictures of the girls on the glass - their full complement
Good grief I thought - a Hotel running their own escort service on the side - fantastic. There was no evidence of such a service from the lobby & I had no idea it was there until I stumbled upon it. This must obviously cater to the Malaysian chaps that race over the border for a bonk. No problems wondering if Girl Friendly here, and there's no 'walk of shame' either...the Hotels in on it! The male porters occasionally ask if you want some company for the night but nothing too high pressure.It was a short stay of 2 nights in town & I decided to only sample the delights 'in-house' so I can't speak of other girlie attractions around town
During the bombings I read a bomb went off around the back of the Genting Hotel & on another occassion a bomb was diffused from inside the Hotel. A shame as this is a great little stop for a few days. I must say the locals are super friendly & it makes a pleasant change from the big city attitude
