I have searched around USTFSE, though I may be blind. Has anyone tried this resort? I saw some posts about the Koh Chang Tropicana. I am debating between the two and the price difference is pretty big.

i stayed in Koh Chang Katcha Resort in may 06. Nothing to complain about. Attentive friendly staff. Break fast not a huge spread but good. Matter of choice IMO. Recommended.

Mel actually I use that iamkohchang site before I posted this question. Though his opinion is his opinion and the fact that he owns a place he offers to stay sometimes makes me believe that his reviews are sometimes inaccurate due to that fact. Hmmmmmmmmm, what kind of cheese?

bkkmaster,,, He was after ANY type of good cheese,,, Brie, Camenbert, Blue Vein, Gruyere ANY as he was having serious cheese withdrawal symptoms .
He helped me a lot on choosing a place to stay,, his place was fully booked so I assumed his opinions where not toooo biased.
I liked Koh Chang but neither my wife nor my parents liked it ??????
So I guess it is better next time I go alone .

I might can see why your parents might think that..and your wife might not of liked it because she saw your folks were not digging on it. This is my humble opinion.
I say this because, I took my dad there and my mom went to chang mai with my wife (then GF)... I was thinking it would b a cool thing to hang out with pops on ko chang and let the old lady hang with my mom for 2 or 3 days.
My dad enjoyed himself, but he doesnt really drink and there are not alot of great restaurants (which is his deal.) he respectfully complimented the island (he is the opitamie of a southern gentleman), but I could tell he was a bit bored. He f***ing read a 400 page book on the 1920's mob in the 3 days we were there
He much more enjoyed Phuket where he could eat a nice steak and have a 7&7 or 2 while watching an elvis impersenator (sp?)

I agree its not ideal for family....IMHO its much more condusive to a couple that wants to chill and eat and drink on the beach and just chill with the best sunsets on the planet (I dont know what it is about the sunsets there).
maybe chill on the beach with very warm/clear water, teach a thai girl frisbie or go to a waterfall, and take a nice "break" around 3-5pm then rent a longboat for a sunset ride along the coast (appr. 400 baht per hour) with a bottle of wine.
Then a nice 250baht bbq on the beach with another bottle of wine then repeat the afternoon "break" and then step outside and watch the fire twirlers or go for a night time swim with the little lady, and the best part get up and order a pina colda in the morning and repeat previous day....this is my thoughts of Ko Chang!!!!!!!!
I cant wait to get back in November....oh and pay the coolest ka toi "Thor" a visit at his restaurant on white sands "thors palace" he can get you the hook up if you are a good customer..nothing serious but bob marley would be "irie mon"
have fun...it is a place to experience.

Thanks atl, one thing I definitely do agree with Ian is that it really seems that Koh Chang Tropicana looks like a really good place for beach and space and peacefullness, expensive as hell though.

I usually stayed at lonely beach...nice bungalows from 250 to 1000baht a night.
when my dad and I went we stayed at a nice resort on Kai Bay (sp?) like $100 a night and very nice.
possibly a bit more now, but I cant see it being more than like $125 and the same place in florida would of been $320 a night easy.
If I was you, now is not high season, I would just go and check out places before booking. You might have to get a 800baht bungalow (which will be nice) until you settle on the ultimate spot.

Really Mel? Honestly I would think parents would like this kind of place since it is so peaceful, though I'm sure it's not for everyone. Maybe I should try and smuggle in a block of that smelly Lindenberger (or however you spell it) cheese.

I think you are talking about this place, it loos to be one of the nicer at Kai Bae. Unfortunately I am planning on going in Nov. which is high season, that's why I'm doing the major brainstorm now.
